Follow up for those of you who responded to my Message. I went on Ancestry.com this am and found my connection and have down loaded a GEDCOM with 16,360 names. It goes all the way back to 900 or more. Haven't had time to study it and see how many of the names apply..Thinks its nice to give other encouragement. Miracle do happen if you keep checking. Winnie
Goofed again. Should be replies not reply, there were several. And the Groom was William ? , William Reeves was their son. Thanks again
Thanks for all the reply. Yes the name is spelled with an i. I goofed when I refered to him as her. I do know that i is usually a male version, but my mind is going these days. I haven't tried an internet search yet. I was hoping to find someone local who had something. This Francis was listed as guardian of Elizabeth Compton who married William Reeves Boswell Oct 1831, in Bedford County. Winnie

But may I ask is there anything about James Moore who married Sally McGhee in 1813? She was the daughter of Nancy Adoch, and the surety for the marriage bond was Martin McGhee. I am particularly interested in knowing where this couple lived. I have information on the Moore line if you are interested. Thanks Karen Worley

Hi All, I have two questions regarding two sons of John S. Merriman. My great grandfather was Lorenzo D. Merriman born 1845, served in Company G, 42nd VA Infantry. Married Nancy J. (Nannie) Bouldin Jan. 20, 1866 in Henry County. Died August 12, 1894. Question No. 1. Does anyone have any information as to where Lorenzo and Nannie were living when he died and where are they buried? Question No. 2. Which Regiment did Lorenzo's brother, James B. Merriman, serve in during the Civil War? James B. married Martha Shelton and they lived in Spencer, VA. They are buried in Old Wells Church Cemetery. If you have any information about this family please contact me at: BarbaraAMI@aol.com Would like to visit Franklin County, but it is impossible at this time. Maybe later. Donna, I hope you and the group have a good meeting October 7th. Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone is able to give me. BARBARA JARRETT HORNE in Graham, NC
Dear Genealogy Friends, We will be having a genealogy round table meeting . Meeting will be October 7th from 10 am to noon. We will meet at the Franklin County Library meeting room. Everyone is welcome to come. If you have questions you can call Beverly Merritt at 540-483-3657 or email Donna Wilkes at ktrygal1@aol.com. If you would like to bring the genealogy work you are working on PLEASE bring it along so we can discuss what you are searching. Many times getting a group together we find common ancestors and are able to help one another. Hope to see you there.

I live in Florida and always read about Franklin County on the rootsweb site. I feel akin to Franklin County because part of my roots are there. My great grandfather Joseph Franklin Doss was born there about 1827. I lost him somewhere between 1860 and 1865. I always look at the site hoping I can see something that would give me more information about him. I sincerely hope your genealogy and historical group members will be bonded together and continue to contribute to all of us who are looking for our families. I think I have missed seeing some of the conversations, so I don't know if a lack of a meeting place is the issue, or if there is something else involved. Anyway, please keep on keeping on. I live in NC but will eventually track my husband's family back through time in Franklin Co. I try to keep up for the time being via these emails. I have visited Rocky Mount in the past and dropped in to the Society office. I found the folks there VERY friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my visit!! While I can't be an active member at this time, I'd like to offer encouragement and support. I hope your group keeps going. Keep the rest of us out of towner's up-to-date. - T. R. Hello Donna, We visited with you this summer from New Mexico and with cousins from Georgia and understood that the house the society was in was up for sale and you might have to move. Where will you keep all the material, books, etc that have been donated? Will we still get out newsletter and I feel sure the books will be sent out when published. Surely there should be enough interest in the County itself to try to find a place for a historical society to further the interests of the County. There are more and more people getting into genealogy and this is good for tourist trade--maybe you should push this with the County and City of Rocky Mount, as well as with the Chamber of Commerce. Does the Chamber have a room you can use until something comes up--or maybe they would want to expand and include a historical room? Keep us informed as I am sure you will, and GOOD LUCK!!!
