    3. In addition to what Marla wrote, I offer Bedford Co. Court Order Book 1, March 1757, has a brief Clerk's entry re: "deed from John Beard to Vincent Glass was acknowledged by the said Beard and ordered to be recorded." The deed, acknowledged by Beard himself, probably refers to Deed Book A- 1 for March 28, 1757, which has deed from John Beard to Vincent Glass, 200 acres both sides Falling River beginning at a maple on lower side of river to Joanes Corner onto Manley's line, for 50 pounds. Later on in Order Book I there was a lawsuit for Hastie vs. Glass with judgement in favor of Hastie & dated January Court 1759. There was no detail, just the fact the Plaintiff won a small sum plus costs & fees. So from those three items I gather we can bet a couple of dollars that V. Glass was a resident of Bedford County not long after it's formation and might have had a family. But to find out if he was Cherokee with right to buy land, etc. we would have to dig some more. There is plenty on John Beard in Bedford & Franklin records. It just means "Glass" was in the county early. Hope this helps your quest a bit. 1. [VAFRANKL] Reading Microfilm
    2. Barb S.
    3. Very good tip from Ancestry --------------- TRY TRACING UNREADABLE FILM I was trying to transcribe a marriage register from a blurry microfilm image containing information on my g-g-grandfather. I was especially interested in his mother's name, but I could not see it clearly enough to even guess at the name. I tried placing my research notebook under the blurry image and traced it with a pen for future reference. When I moved it into the light, it clearly read "Gaines." I was surprised and delighted! Cathy Wood San Diego, CA Editor's Note: If you use a piece of colored paper, especially yellow, in place of the notebook, you may find the image easier to read as well. For microfilm readers with the images on a screen, a yellow-tinted, clear plastic sheet will help.

    2. Marla Moore
    3. Dorothy and Bill, Thank you both for the lookup for Mary Stewart. Bill, I have another question on these Birds. Apparently, there were two sets of Birds--the first set show in the 1786 Property Tax lists, and resided on the Franklin Co/Henry Co border... was Henry Co. also formed from Bedford Co? The second set of Birds arrived about 1810 in Franklin Co from Bedford County. But I'm not sure that they were related to the first set, but I'm assuming they traveled perhaps 40 miles to get there. How do I go about finding out where these Birds (especially the 1st set) originated? Are there any records in existence prior to the 1786 Tax list? If so, where would I write? Thanks for your willingness to help us out of state researchers. Marla
