Can anyone tell me the dated that Long Branch Primitive Baptist Church was founded. I believe the date is inscribed on the building, but when I was there last I didn't write it down, and my memory seems to have misplaced this information. Thanks. Gary
Dear Fellow Researchers, Do you have anything on the Stegall Family line. I have some data but many missing pieces. Do you have a Drinkard Stegall. *************************************** Below is some census work. In Wingfield's marriage book he list him as David Drinkard Stegall, I find no refrence to a David, only Drinkard. A Drinkard Stegall shows up in Bedford Co., Va., I think maybe Floyd County, Va. and Paint Creek, Raleigh county, WVA. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Sometimes I wish it was impossible for any state to use the same county name as one in another state. Would make my job a lot easier. Thanks, Barb. Sorry, folks. My wife and I have been clearing up an old cemetery just south of the Radford Cemetery off the Blue Ridge Parkway on road 888. I believe this Graveyard was abandoned when the current Radford Cemetery came into use. We located several hidden grave stones, either in brush or just fallen down and covered with dirt. They are: ( ,= means new line) 1806 ,(with a faint 6 point star or leaf in a circle) broken top, looks like 'NDE' , Aug 27th , 18x9 (x=3 or 8) 1859, Elis U , Died (the 'is' is hard to read and may be wrong) J U S U (U is hard to read) , May 8 1803, 1803 I believe the SU May 8 1803 to be Samuel Underwood born about 1745 son of Samuel Underwood and Anne Travilla and husband to Misniah 'Canaday. This gravestone was under ground just 8 feet from, 1840 Joseph . Dear Fellow researchers and friends, I have received many emails, a few calls about the Heritage 2000 book that the Franklin County Historical Society is working on. The project began last year. During my son's tragedy I was not at home for the summer of 2000 and after his death I found their had been problems with the Historical Society. I was not involved so I do not know what the problems have been. However, for the folks that have emailed and called me I have tried to call and get an update on the book. The original date of delivery was December 15, 2000.. Many have been anxious for various reasons. While it appears the book will be out soon. If anyone has done a project of this magnitude you know their are always problems, the copy machine breaks, deadlines not met etc. etc . etc. I would like for you to please direct any questions about the book to: Dorothy Cundiff, President of Retail Merchants- email is rma@cablenet-va.com or call at 540-483-9211 or Linda Stanley at fchs@sitestar.net or call 540-483-1890 for the Franklin County Historical Society. These are the contact folks for the book. I have only tried to get answers to your questions. I am not involved in the production of the book. I contributed stories and photo's and I sold books but this is my only involvement. I appreciate your patience. Sincerely, Donna B. Dear Fellow Researchers: I use to do the newsletter for the Franklin County Genealogy Society, Franklin County Heritage Society and Franklin County Historical Society. I am no professional but I did enjoy doing the newsletter, I love the queries. Because I had a tragedy in my family, my son died last summer, I was at the hospital for 3 months by his side and I could not do the newsletter. Well since all that things have changed for the Historical Society. I think I am ready to start back again., Franklin County does not have a Genealogy Society anymore, when the genealogy society existed, we did newsletters, had monthly meetings with guest speakers, and allowed everyone to discuss what they where working on, weither it be genealogy of a family or the history and/or migration of a family we sat around the large table in the Public Library Conference Room. We would go on outtings like cemetery hunting etc. and we would eat together and we had fun. I would like to ask you my fellow researchers: 1. Would you like to see a Franklin County Genealogy Society? 2. Would you be interested in a quarterly newsletter or bimonthly newsletter? 3. Would you like a mailed copy or sent via email? 4. Would you be willing to contribute stories, post queries, advertise any books etc. that you have for sale. I would like your feedback, I want to know what you would like to happen, the newsletter would be for you to ask questions, try to meet fellow researcher's who are searching the same surname, you to contribute family stories, handed down traditions, handed down recipes, post photo's of your loved ones, it would belong to everyone, everyone who wants can input and help. It would be a very small fee, just to cover paper, copying and stamps.
