    1. Fw: [VAFRANKL] Snow Creek
    2. Snow Creek is located in the SE corner of Franklin Co. I'd go to Rocky Mount, and ask for directions to the community of Snow Creek. The actual stream is northwest of the small mountain that seperates Pittsylvania and Franklin Counties. 3. That is a good Question?? As far as I know, it is in Franklin County, most areas, though parts may be considered in Henry County. I guess it depends on which part you are looking at. My husband is racing today, so I can't ask him. He will be home later this evening, if anyone can answer this question he can and I will post whatever information he gives me. He is a walking landmark directory. 3. Harold, Snow Creek is not a town, I am not sure what to clarify it as, but if you are on US SR 220 near the Rocky Mount exit and you see the 619 Minute Market, you turn on to 619 RR and you are in Snow Creek. You will have to have more specific directions to locate the home as Snow Creek is country living at it's best. I use to live at the foot of Turkey Cot (sp) mountain in Snow Creek and you can quite easily get lost in that area if unfamiliar with its landmarks. Hope this helps. If you can give more specific landmarks . . .Was it near Grindstaffs general store? etc, Snow Creek Elementary (ex)?I can find it on my map and destinations locator. Be more specific. 1. [VAFRANKL] Doss Home/Cemetery Location
    2. Donna Doss
    3. I am trying to locate the home of Rev. William L. Doss and wife Mary F. Ward Doss. This home was built about mid 1800's by Wm. Doss and was located in the Pen Hook area. It was also owned by his daughter Minerva Doss Toller and husband John L. Toller. Later their son Charles L. Toller, who ran the Pen Hook Supply Co. owned the home. The last owner information I have is Mrs.Keva Amos and husband Millard who was a rural mail carrier. There is a cemetery located across the road from the house where some Toller's are buried. This home could possibly be located near the Bradner/Toller/ Ramsey Cemetery. The records show the cemetery is off Rt. 40 on Rt. 645, but I have not been able to locate it. Thanks for any info or suggestions. Donna

    1. [VAFRANKL] Freed or Not
    2. Angela Griffin
    3. Hello all: I got a lead on a 4g grandmother (Calia Butcher) living in Nottoway Co, VA. I Found her listed on the 1850 census with her children but below her name it said " on the land of Martha Jones". Would Calia been considered a freed black person because she was listed on the "regular" census and not the slave schedule? Also, she had 100 dollars worth of real estate. Can someone explain this to me and what should my next step be to find the husband of Calia? Calia had more kids and my 3g grandmother was born 1875 in Nottoway. Thank you for your time. Angela

    1. [VAFRANKL] Jones family book
    2. I went to the Franklin County Historical Society to look up info on the Jones family. The lady there was very helpful, I found a book entitled "The Jones Family", and I made xerox copies of the relevant parts. I got home, started trying to piece everything together, and I'm very confused. In the beginning of the book it lists off the children of Robert Jones and Marie Mary Van Meter. They were married about 1745 in Franklin County, and had the following children: i. Thomas Jones, born July 5, 1748, died March 22, 1830 ii. Fleming Jones, born 1813 Montgomery County, VA iii. Isaac Jones iv. Lewis Jones v. Ann Jones vi. Sally Jones born November 25, 1810 vii Ruth Jones viii Polly Jones It just looks wrong. For Fleming Jones to be born 65 years after Thomas Jones he would have to be his grandson? But then it goes into more details about Sally Jones and it says: Sally Jones (ROBERT1) was born Nov 25, 1810 in Franklin County. She married Creed T Jones Sept 23, 1835 in Franklin County, son of Abraham Jones and Sally Hale. Would anyone know much about this family or have access to the book that could help explain this to me? Thanks, Glenn Ramsey
