    3. Does anyone know anything about a William Costello Mills married to a lady named Charlotte. I don't know when or where they were married. Maybe about 1833 in Ohio. They had a son named Sylvester Mills, b. abt. 1834 in Ohio m. Peredine Roop, d/o James W. Roop and Elizabeth Earl, married Aug. 30, 1855 in Floyd Co. Sylvester was born in Ohio Other children were: Sarah m. Noah Sink - 1858 - Franklin Co. Mary James m. Sally Maxey - 1874 - Franklin Co. John Joseph Emily Costello Mills was surety for marriage of Miles Gibson and Minerva Bocock, Sept. 03, 1833 in Franklin Co. William Costello Mills probably died between 1852 (last child born) and 1860. (not on the census - his wife Charlotte Mills listed as HOH) Charlotte moved to Floyd Co. *Next Door* to Anderson Mills. In 1860 Census, living with her were her children, Joseph, Mary and Sarah. When Sylvester Mills married he listed his parents as Costello and Charlotte Mills. When Sarah Mills married she listed her parents as Charlotte Mills - Father Unknown. When James was married he listed his parents as Cosley and Charlotte Mills Thanks for any help. Barb S.

    1. [VAFRANKL] Re: Question on Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church
    2. Regarding the questions on Pigg River Primitive Baptist Church: Yes, it still exists (founded in 1773); holds monthly services; and has a well-maintained cemetery. Some of the grave markers in the old section of the cemetery date back to the early 1800s. Others (field stones) are illegible. The church is located on State Route 750, if my memory serves correctly, about 2-3 miles off SR 602 (Ferrum-Callaway Road). Lane

    1. [VAFRANKL] Snow Creek - Pig(g) River
    2. William M. Hunt
    3. Am a bit late, but had shut down for three days. A map of Franklin Co. by a man named Bucholtz as it was in 1859 is in the VA State Library. Reproductions appear in several books, but I have it from the 1787 Personal Property Tax List publication by Yantis and Love. Snow Creek is in the southeast corner of the county and it flows southwest nearly all the way to the Henry line. It has many branches coming off from each side. The origin of the creek itself seems to be out of the Pig River (with one g) over in Pittsylvania County. Before reaching Franklin there is a big branch which flows south on the east side of a small mountain and that branch was named Turkey Cock Branch. There aren't any towns or settlements on Snow Creek with names, but there are three black dots along the creek just a mile or two apart, which I just suppose represented small communities in 1859. Hope this helps or at least adds to the big picture. Bill
