Hello listers, I just received a copy of a Marriage License from Franklin Co. Va. It's from 1902. And it says the male getting married (my gGrandfather), was living in Indian Territory. (He was actually Malaysian/Chinese) So my question is... were there Indian territories in Franklin Co back then? Or do you think he lived in another county? Also, are there any resources for researching his family, now that I know his parents names? Any Indian census info? dear list, also planning a trip this summer and hope to have a day or two in franklin county. specifically, researching the BASHAM surname and seaarching for parents of anderson basham b. 1810 possibly monroe county. wondering where the bashams are in franklin. thanks a lot. carol
I am new to this list, and I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if there is a good source of information about cemeteries, libraries, etc. in Franklin County. We are taking a family vacation to VA in July, and I'm using a couple of days for genealogy research in Franklin Co. I would like to find out as much as I can beforehand so I can maximize my time there. Specifically, I'm researching the ANGLE surname. I descend from Peter Angle through his son John Angle and wife Frances, then through their son Daniel Angle and his second wife, Mary Abigail Willis. (Their son Charles Henry was my great-grandfather.) Can anyone tell me where there are cemeteries that include the Angle surname? It has been a long time since I've been to Franklin Co., so any directions would be welcomed as well. I don't have much information about my Angle line, other than names I've gotten from marriage records and birth and death certificates. I don't have names of siblings, either. If you can fill in any of my blanks, I would be most indebted! Thank you very much for your help. Sincerely, Kathy (Angle) Hall JHall80724@aol.com
Hello: Can someone tell me how much $1,500 back in 1932 be equal to in 2001? One of my relatives received a settlement because of the accidental death. Angela

Dear Friends, The 2nd "Hills of Home", Franklin County, Virginia Genealogy Newsletter has been mailed. Many have emailed and/or written and joined and loved the newsletter however I have a few sent back to me: 1. Wrong address 2. The 14 page newsletter, stapled and addressed and taped, some folks only got the cover page. The page with the mailing address, return address, membership enrolment form. The couple that came back to me, had the extra postage, this newsletter postage was 55 cent due to the extra pages. Please let me know if you only got the outside cover. We plan a trip to the post office on Tuesday a.m. The folks who emailed and/or wrote to me, I will be making a list and mailing you the newsletter again. I am so sorry, I have no idea what happened. The address was formatted right, the right postage was applied. Please email/call/write if you only got the outside cover. Sincerely, Donna B. Wilkes Hills of Home-Franklin Co.,Va 2935 Iron Ridge Road Rocky Mount, VA 24151 p.s. I am using another computer, my computer crashed last week. There were probably a number of men of the same generation who had the same name, and probably some who served in the war on both sides. My suggestion is to first obtain as much info as you can to firmly establish his identity beginning with Iowa records. Try getting Censuses of 1860 & 1870 for Iowa if that's where you think he might have been after he married. Then if you do, work backwards by using the records you might find about him. You could search the Natl Archives and see how many Peter Hunter's had military service in the Civil War 1) Confederate; 2) Union. The military records usually tell where men enlisted as well as where they were discharged. If you know or learn when and where he died you could start working there because an Obituary might be available... or something. Looking for early residents of the Snow Creek area who may have had connections with Cooks who resided there from 1760's to the 1850's. Specifically, brothers John Cook who married Amy Belcher, and Benjamin Cook who married Sallie Fuqua. We believe that the brothers parents were a Benjamin and Mary Cook, and their grandparents were a John and Judith Cook. Please respond at cooktheman@mindspring.com. Sam Cook

Hello I wonder if anyone can help me find details on Robert Gulline registered on the Virginia census in 1910 being in Franklin County and born around 1876 in Virginia. I believe he married Laura ? and had 3 sons and 1 daughter. His wife was only 26 in 1920 but his eldest son was 12 so hopefully the older children are to his second wife! I would love to know details on his children/parents etc. Thank you in advance. Carrie carrie@gulline.freeserve.co.uk
