    3. Michael, I cannot help you on the Wray line, but I can tell you that Isaac Lemon and Levina (Vina) Richardson married in Franklin County on 5-1-1786. They had 11 children all of which married in Franklin except one. We have not been able to learn the parents of either Isaac or Vina. Lemon has always been spelled this way. There was another family who spelled their name different, his first name was Daniel. In Botetourt county there are some Lemon/Layman families, which I have been unable to connect to the Franklin line. Hope this may be some help to you. 3. I have recently found a probable cousin but we cannot quite confirm any of our families. If I have a solid date he does not and vise-versa. Question: how many known family Wray Lines existed in Franklin Co. VA in say 1786. Both of our relations would have been in the Boones Mill area. Second did any Lemon Families during the late 1700's or is this likely Layman (or is the name intermixed? From the cemeteries book it looks to me that the name was modified in the late 1800's but this is my speculation.) Any comments are appreciated Michael A. 1. [VAFRANKL] William H, Harrison b abt 1809 Franklin Co, VA
    2. william & carrie hoffert
    3. My GGG-GF William Henry Harrison was born abt 1809 in Franklin Co, VA, he married Cynthia 'Sina' Dillon on 23 Oct 1826 in Franklin Co, VA. 'Sina' was born abt 1809 or 1810, also in Franklin County to William Dillon & Frances 'Frankie' Blankenship. About 1843 William & Sina, with their children moved to Cabell Co, VA (WV) Their children were all born in Franklin Co, except the last 3 listed below; OTIS b 1829, CELIA b 1831, ABIGAIL LUCINDA b 1833, CATHERINE b 1835, WILLIAM b 1837, JOHN HENRY b 1839, MARY b 1841, JAMES, COLUMBIA Salina I gave the children's names in case any of the unusual names were known to be used in any of the HARRISON FAMILIES of Franklin Co, VA during the 1700s. I am trying to locate ANY leads for whom William Henry Harrison's PARENTS may have been. I am willing to research any Harrison males (born between 1760-1780) that may have been the father of William. The Parents would have been living in Franklin County at the turn of the century 1800-1820 period at least. Somewhere I heard that William's Father's name MAY have been BEN, but there is NOTHING to support this, IF it is correct ??, he could have been a Benjamin, a Reuben, a Zebulon.... SO you can see my quandary....I have searched the Harrison Repository Information, No LUCK! I have tried through Dillon contacts, NO LUCK! I have tried via gedcoms on LDS, Ancestry.com, Kindred Konnections, Rootsweb, NO LUCK! I have posted to Harrison Query boards on every major host for genealogy, NO LUCK! All I am trying to do is get a lead, so I can start the research necessary to prove or disprove. PLEASE I need HELP, ANY leads appreciated! Carrie Bias Hoffert hoffert@mindspring.com

    1. [VAFRANKL] Re: [WR] Jesse Wright
    2. Robert Grant
    3. To Tom Sandman and Ruby Wallace and the Wright, Franklin, and Fauquier County Lists: This is in reply to Tom's query regarding Jesse Wright and is being sent to Ruby, who has an interest in this family as well, and also to the Wright, Franklin County, and Fauquier County lists for their information. Over the last several months I have put together the following which goes beyong what I had sent Tom and Ruby in my prior emails. My records now list Jesse Wright as Jesse R. Wright and possibly the son of 1845 (year of death) John Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, (place of death) and Mary (Wray) Wright and grandson of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, and Mary (Grant) Wright, and great grandson of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Bronaugh) (Darnell) Wright. This identification is based on circumstantial evidence as follows. The 1793 Personal Property Tax List for Franklin County, Virginia, listed John Wright with one white tithe and the1794 List had John Wright with two white tithes, indicating the attainment by a son of the age of 16 and thus that son's birth between March 29, 1777, and April 7, 1778. The 1798 Personal Property Tax List for Franklin County listed John Wright with three white tithes and the 1799 Tax List had John with two white tithes, indicating the removal of a son from the household. Marriage was the typical reason for removal and the marriage record of Jesse Wright and Elizabeth Crawford was dated on March 21, 1799, at Franklin County, Virginia, with George Wright as surety. The only George Wright living in Franklin County at that time was 1843 George Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, a son of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, and if my identification is correct, an uncle of Jesse Wright. The age of 21 or 22 is consistent with the time of birth of that first son of John Wright in 1777 or 1778. The 1800 and 1801 Franklin County Personal Property Tax Lists had Jesse Wright with one white tithe and then he is no longer listed, indicating his probable removal from Franklin County, Virginia, to another area. Ruby Wallace stated that the tombstone of Elizabeth (Crawford) Wright listed her as the wife of Jesse R. Wright and that the book James Dyer: Descendants And Allied Families stated that Jesse R. Wright and Elizabeth (Crawford) Wright were in South Carolina by 1808. Ruby further stated that Jesse R. Wright resided in 1830 at Carroll County, Georgia, near to Hiram Wright. That Hiram Wright was a son of 1830 William Wright of Franklin County, Virignia, and grandson of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, and if my identification is correct, a cousin of Jesse R. Wright. The combination of progression from father's household to his own household on marriage indicated by the personal property tax lists and marriage record, the connection to the family of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County through the surety on the marrige bond, the move away from Franklin County indicated by the personal property tax lists, and the proximity to another member of the family of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County in Georgia in 1830 seem to make a strong circumstantial case that Jesse R. Wright was related to the family of 1809 William Wright and probably the son of John Wright indicated by the tax lists. That John Wright was 1845 John Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, a Revolutionary War veteran and husband of Mary (_____) Wright. That Mary (_____) Wright was probably Mary Wray, named in her father's will as Mary Wright. One of 1845 John Wright's daughters was Tabitha Wright who married Thomas Huston on June 8, 1799, at Franklin County, Virginia. As Tom noted in his query, Jesse Wright's grandson was Thomas Huston Wright. The similarity of family names is additional strong circumstantial evidence that Jesse Wright was a son of 1845 John Wright of Franklin County. 1845 John Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, was probably the son of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County and Mary (Grant) Wright, based on his birth in Fauquier County in about 1749 or possibly 1747 and the location of his land in Franklin County near to the land of 1809 William and other circumstantial evidence. 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, was probably the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia. The evidence for this identification is extensive and requires a review of the Fauquier records as well as Franklin County records and the elimination of other incorrect identifications that have been often repeated on the net. I would be happy to share the material I have put together for these identifications. Best wishes, Robert N. 3. I apologize for the cross-posting, but we want to get this announcement to everyone we can. Linda Efforts are now under way to launch DNA Y-chromosone tests within the Traylor family. We especially need volunteers who can trace their lineage back to 18th century sons of William and Edward Traylor in Henrico and Chesterfield Counties, VA. Only Traylor males who are direct line descendants can be tested for the Y-chromosone. We are also trying to contact English Traylors to see if we can set up links between them and our American Traylor family. The name is variously spelled Trayler, Trailer, or Trailor. If you have Traylor roots and are interested in this project, please contact the coordinator at nellab@cox-internet.com. 2. Sheila Jo Genser
    3. I have newly subscribed to this mailing list and am not sure how it works, but hope that someone will be kind enough to walk me through this. I am not new at research, but not sure how your "help" works. If I am overstepping the use of this list, accept my apologies, and ignore my listing. I am researching one of those many grandfathers.... William Copeland from Franklin Co. VA. and I cannot seem to get back to his parents. Below is a brief outline and would appreciate any help that anyone can give. William Copeland b. 20 Jan 1806 in VA (not sure if it is Franklin Co. VA) d. 31 Mar 1888, buried: Mt. Zion Cem, Saline Co., MO m. 1st Martha Neblett (Niblett) 3 Jul 1827 in Franklin VA They had 4 children: 1. Oliver B. Copeland m. Charity M. Cooper 16 Oct 1848 Franklin Co. VA 2. Martha Copeland m. Franklin Choice, 3 Jan 1848 Franklin Co., VA 3. William N. Copeland 4. Mary J. Copeland m. Jones m. 2nd Elizabeth T. Corn 2 Jan 1844 Patrick Co., VA dau. of Jesse Corn, Jr. and Elizabeth Burnett They had 7 children all born in Franklin Co. VA 1. John Boliver Copeland (1846-1893) 2. Jesse Copeland (1848-?) 3. Robert William Copeland (1850-1940) 4. Charles Oscar Copeland (1852-?) 5. James Sharp Copeland (1854-1935) 6. Elizabeth Baldwin Copeland (1856-?) 7. Nannie V. Copeland (1858-1921) William Copeland and his 2nd wife with children are listed in the 1850 census and they came to Missouri ca 1860. All children came with them except William N. and I have not been able to trace his line. The Copelands lived near Snow Creek apparently, because they attended the Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church. There is an Archibald Copeland listed in the 1820 census and a male child between age 10 to 16 is shown which would fit my William Copeland. It was handed down in our family that they thought William Copeland was an only child. There is also an Elizabeth Copeland, age 57, living with William Copeland in the 1850 census. If this is his mother she would have been only 12 when he was born....providing census was correct! There were other Copelands in the area (Richard Copeland and Christy Copeland) but have not made a connection. Would appreciate any help to find my William Copeland's parents. Sheila Genser

She entered data for years- cross referenced the data by a number- the number stands for a file in which she got the data. Each number has a paper file) The database is being loaded into a second computer in my home (Donna Wilkes, Rocky Mount, Va.). All new data sent to us will be entered and given a number, the data mailed is being set up in surname files. Hills of Home was not organized to make money but only to share genealogy with others. We believe with everyone working together so much more can be accomplished. HOWEVER, The database reports will soon be available. There will be a charge for the report (to cover, paper, envelopes, stamps etc.). The next newsletter will have what type of reports are available and hopefully we will have come up with some type of fair cost. ANYONE wishing to give us ideas, we welcome any and all suggestions. I have started a small collection of children's books about history. I have a civil war book, book about Clara Barton, etc.etc. My hopes is to capture the interest of the young and hopefully get the children involved. I would also like to do something for middle school and high school. I am open to all ideas and suggestions. Happy Searching, Happy 4th of July- enjoy the family and friends- celebrate our great nation and reflect upon the many soldiers thoughout our history who lost their lives to our nation. Sincerely, Donna B. Wilkes Rocky Mount, Va. p.s. Many of you know my son died July 27, 2000, on my rescent visit to Gettysburg, PA. I walked onto the field of the great battle of July 3, 1863, Pickett's Charge, the civil war and my heart ached for the many mothers who lost sons that day, and yes some lost daughters, some lost boys, some lost 3 sons. Whether it be north or south- the fact remains- that many thousands died and many folks suffered great loss. MY HEART ACHES!!!!!! p.s.s. I went back last night and read many civil war letters, soldiers writing home to Franklin County to their wives, children and/or mother's and in the letters you can feel the pain and suffering, the poor conditions of living in tents, etc.etc.etc. It made me think about how easy we have it today and things as simple as paper was a luxury to soldiers.
