    1. [VAFRANKL] Two Men Named Jonathan Peters
    2. In a message dated 7/28/01 10:52:15 AM Eastern Daylight Time, Bervi writes: > I also have a Jonathan Peters, b. ca 1825 Franklin CoVA who m. Elizabeth > Peter: There were two different Jonathan Peters, born about the same time in Franklin County, VA. They were from different & unrelated lines. One family is known to have German ancestry. The other probably has English roots & may have originally went by the surname of "Peter." The Jonathan Peters who wed Elizabeth Stover is of the German family & not of my line. I hope this clears everything up. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

    1. [VAFRANKL] Jonathan Peters' Brides
    2. My gg grandfather, Jonathan Peters, was born 23 April 1827 in Franklin County, VA & died sometime after 1900 in probably Raleigh County, WV. I have found 3 marriages for Jonathan Peters listed in Raleigh County Marriage records transcribed by Pauline Haga. They are as follows: * 10 June 1852 to Catherine Dickens * 6 February 1896 to Spicy Catherine Vealey * 27 June 1899 to Sarah Margaret Pittman According to a Dickens Family history book written by Justin Kirk Dickens, Jonathan Peters also married one Margie Laverty. No wedding date is given. The 1900 Raleigh County, VA Census lists the following household in the Marsh Fork District: 312 Jonathan Peters born April 1827 73 years old Mary born April 1827 73 years old Since the census information is just a year after Jonathan's third marriage, I believe that Sarah Margaret Pittman is actually Margie/Mary Laverty & that her marriage to Jonathan Peters was, at least, her second. I believe that her maiden name was Laverty & that she first married a Mr. Pittman. Can anyone assist me with this dilemma? Thank you in advance for any information or guidance. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

    1. [VAFRANKL] Sinks at Gettysburg
    2. Jackie: I found three of the Sink surname, with ties to Franklin County, listed in the same company & the same regiment. The trio is found in the roster record of Company B, 24th VA Voluntary Infantry Regiment in the following manner: Sink, John H.(4th Corporal): Father was Mr. Otty Sink; the company initially reports him as missing in action and subsequently as "supposed killed" but there are no federal records concerning him; killed. Sink, Jessie: Enl 10 March 1862 at Gogginsville. Sink, William: Enl 3 March 18162 at Rocky Mount. Company B of the 24th VA Voluntary Infantry Regiment was organized at Gogginsville & Rocky Mount, Franklin County, VA 25 April 1861. It was mustered into service for one year at Lynchburg 23 May 1861 & was reorganized 10 May 1862. I hope this info is useful. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

"Nothing But Glory -- Pickett's Division at Gettysburg," only has people who were enlisted as of July 1-3 1863, when the bloody Battle of Gettysburg was fought. I did, however, find another George W. Adams listed in 2nd Company "I" (AKA James River Artillery) of the 3rd VA Voluntary Infantry Regiment. This George W. Adams is listed as a 21 year old college student. 2nd Company "I" has ties to Isle of Wright & Nansemond Counties of VA. Sorry, I couldn't be of more help. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

Busey, is an excellent reference tool! I just purchased mine for less than cover value on Ebay. Cover price on this more than 600 page hardback is $29.95. It was copyrighted in 1987 & 1993. It was published by: Thomas Publications P.O. Box 3031 Gettysburg, PA 17325 Thomas Publications, according to information found in the book, "publishes books about the American Colonial era, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and other important topics." For a complete list of titles, the reader is asked to write Thomas Publications at the Gettysburg address mentioned above. A definite must read for anyone interested in the Battle of Gettysburg, written from the perspective of Pickett's Division -- a group of men whose sacrifice & courage is chronicled & honored by Kathy Georg Harrison & John W. Busey, co-authors of "Nothing But Glory ... " Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

    1. RE: [VAFRANKL] Land records
    2. william & carrie hoffert
    3. Margaret, you can find most land records in the Library of Virginia files, they are digital and you can read, print or download copies of the actual records. You can search by surname, be sure and use variant spellings as the response is based on how the name WAS spelled not how it should have been spelled. Here is the url to the Library of Virginia. They have many other types of records that are digital and everyone with lineage in VA should investigate. Carrie http://www.lva.lib.va.us/dlp/index.htm -----Original Message----- From: Marheinek@aol.com [mailto:Marheinek@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, July 24, 2001 3:00 PM To: VAFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [VAFRANKL] Land records I just found that there are land records in 1779 in Bedford Co. for HENRY WOODY, WILLIAM WOODY, AND THOMAS ROBERTSON. Does anyone know anything about these records, if there were land sales soon, as both Henry Woody and Thomas Robinson/Robertson were in Franklin Co. in 1797/1800. Any idea where I might find records on this will be appreciated. Now...I am in posession of the 1880 US census, and will look up anyone that you feel was in VA or other places then. All I ask is: please do not ask for more than one name at a time. If at all possible I will search for them and get back to you right away. Margaret Heinek ______________________________

    1. [VAFRANKL] Hodges at Gettysburg/Harry Dillon Peters
    2. Kay: In "Nothing But Glory -- Pickett's Division at Gettysburg," I found the following listing under Company F, AKA "Henry & Pittsylvania Rifles," 57th VA Volunteer Infantry Regiment: "Hodges, Richard S. (4th Sgt): Enl 17 April 1862 at Fort Dillard, North Carolina; shot in the right thigh and shoulder, left hip, and right hand, and captured; treated at U.S. VI Corps Hospital; exchanged from DeCamp Hospital 27 September 1863." I do not find Hiram Harvey Hodges or David Franklin Hodges listed. It is quite possible that I'm related to the Harry Dillon Peters if he hailed from the Floyd or Franklin County areas of VA. I'll check to see what I can find out. Do you know who his parents were? I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com
