3. Have you ever sent or received e-cards from Blue Mountain? birthday cards and the like? That's where a lot of my SPAM stuff originated. :-(( If you've got Outlook Express, under the "Message" icon when the SPAM is open, there are some options ("Block Sender" and "Create a Rule") you can use to delete the vile stuff automatically . It seems to work pretty well. Only problem is with "To: none" Somehow when the "TO" is set to the recipient list called "none", that list is hidden some way or constructed in such a way that future postings to "none" can't be blocked. (I'd love a solution to that one!) I've found that, besides blocking the sender, if there's a website or a snail address or a phone number in the message, that's a good one to add to the message rule for things to be deleted. That way when they change their email address, you can still ax their messages. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Budblossum@aol.com> To: <VAFRANKL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, August 24, 2001 11:33 AM Subject: [VAFRANKL] Question Re: SPAM, from Daundra > Dear list, > I am sending this to all the lists I am on............ > > Are you having the same problem I am having??? 3. It is a problem on Att's Worldnet also. I get more junk mail now then mail from the various lists I belong to. I have talked to those with other net addresses and they are having the same problem. It needs to be stopped. I had thought of changing ISPs but the problem seem to be on most of them. 2. I too have been hit with this junk. It started about two months ago for me. The amount that was being sent to me was tremendous. I have been on the Franklin County and others site for a year or so under a different email address. I have changed my email address and these sites are the only thing I have linked to this email address. So far (about a month) I have not received any junk with this new address, but if I do I might look into the possibility it could be coming from one of the list I belong to. I too would like to know how they are getting us on these junk list and "I'm really not happy about the sex email." I have also been complaining to AOL. One thing that I have notice about the junk email that comes to me is, a lot of times it is AOL members that are the ones getting hit. I question AOL about this too. Lorraine

    2. This seems to be a common problem and is growing by leaps and bounds daily. It's almost overwhelming. To say nothing of disgusting. The only hope we have is to keep forwarding them to tosspam@aol.com and hope that someday they will wake up and apply some technology to this problem. Those fraudulent return addresses are what is causing the problem. Keep forwarding the emails to your ISP, maybe someday they will do something.

    3. Try installing Norton's Internet Security pkg. on your computer. You can set firewalls and blockages to keep the trash out. Norton has caught a number of viruses and either repaired them or quarantined them. I get almost none anymore. 3. Thanks everyone. I have no record that I have looked in other than the 1840 and 1850 census. At the time I was looking for her children. If the census books are easily available to anyone on the list, I would appreciate a look-up for Nancy Gearhart in the 1860 and 1870 census. This won't help me with her parent's names but it may get some estimate of her death date. Should I write to the Rocky Mt. courthouse? Is their search limited to a year range for each search? Will they also look for a guardianship? I guess I would need her father, Leonard's, death date for that. He must have died young. He was only 43 with the latest 1810 birth date of his children. Is there a look-up available for Leonard in a Will index for Franklin Co.? The only research I have on Nancy's lineage was found in "Descendants of Leonard J. Gearhart" downloaded from wayne.gearhart.com and that was probably what was used for the LDS which does require documentation. I would like to fine the source used for this information? Anne

I would like to find some document that Nancy Gearhart b. 1802, Franklin Co.,Va. was the daughter of Leonard Gearhart b. 1767 and Sarah Johnson Gearhart. Nancy married Abraham Boon in 1817. The marriage index doesn't list her parents. Leonard must have been deceased when she married as her brother, Hirman, is listed as sur. Was she too young to be listed in her father's Will or did he have a Will? I don't have her or her father's death date. If I could get her death date, I may be able to get a death certificate which may name her parents. The 1850 Franklin Co. census is the last record I have of her. > > Any help would be appreciated. 2. Dear List, I am also researching the Hall family. I am interested in James Hall, b. @ 1787, who married Feb. 26, 1822 Miriam Pugh, b. @ 1801. I'd like to know more about their descendants and how they tie into the Smithers family. Thanks for any help you can give me. I'd be happy to share what I have on Miriam Pugh. IRene

    1. [VAFRANKL] Hall Families
    2. Hello Fellow Listers, I am looking for the parents and/or siblings of Susannah Hall, born 18 May 1791, possibly in the Franklin Co. VA area. She died before Nov 1846 in Franklin Co. VA. She was married to Robert Hodges on 18 May 1791. I am especially interested in finding Hall descendants that were related to Susannah Hall, and carried the Hall surname. I am also looking for the parents and/or siblings of Sarah Hall, born in the same time frame as the above Susannah Hall. I am trying to find a definite relation between the two, if it exists. Sarah Hall was married to John Goodwin. Here, I am interested in finding Hall descendants that were related to Sarah Hall, and carried the Hall surname. Thank you in advance for any enlightenment to my Hall family confusion. I understand that the Halls, Hodges, and Goodwins often married their cousins, (as if it isn't hard enough to figure out who's who). Carlotta A Eland

    2. Do any subscribers have access to DEATH RECORDS for Franklin Co., VA dating from the 1800s? Your local library can get a lot of this info on film for you on interlibrary loan from the Library of Virginia. Instructions are at Interlibrary Loan Policies - Library of Virginia For lists of what they have available check Local Records Index - Archives and Manuscripts - The Library of Virginia . Under LIST OF COUNTIES AND CITIES at the bottom, it tells what "local records" they have for each county. Under "Vital Statistics Records on Microfilm" it tells about the state copy of birth/marriage/death records. Karen Worley
