    1. [VAFRANKL] I can do lookups
    2. Angela Griffin
    3. Hello: Over the last few months I have acquired copies of the death and birth indexes for certain surnames. The surnames I am researching are Beverly, Buford, Calloway/Callaway, and Saunders. There are the names that I have. When copying theses indexes, there were other surnames on the pages also. For example, my Callaway list has some Caldwell, Cale, Calendar, Calfee, Callahan and a few others. So if it's close to the spelling of my surname, I might have it. The birth index I only have Callaway/Calloway and Saunders. I will only do 2 looks up per individual per day. Angela

    1. [VAFRANKL] Move from Franklin County in 1818
    2. MILEMON
    3. Is anyone aware of a family moving from Franklin County to Ohio in 1818. We have just learned of William Lemon and his wife, Margaret Williams and their children, aged 10 to 1, move to Darke County, OH in 1818. Surely, they did not travel alone. Maybe your lost family is in Darke County. Realize this is a shot in the dark, but had to ask. Millard Lemon

    3. Here's a message from another List with suggestions for the Folklore and Family Stories Board. Try it - You'll like it!! :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.folklore.va Well, things sure quieted down on the Folklore site, so am I going to have to stir some of you folks up again in order to get some more stories posted? How about the following subjects: Barn Dances - anyone remember semi-regular dances at people's houses (and barns) around the country? Potato Holes - anyone grow up where you buried potatoes, turnips, ice, etc. in holes in the ground? Like to know how you insulated them, etc. Early engine-driven farm equipment - anyone have any stories about the first autos, threshing machines, saw mills, etc. that used engine driven power. How about the first tractor you remember...describe it; what make was it? Butchering Time - How did you cut/cure/use the meat? What types of things did you make out of the various parts? Movies - what was your first movie experience? Name some of your earliest "hero's"; how about the Drive-In era? "Courting"- how about early dating experiences....where did you go, what did you do? I am going on vacation in a week (to VA, of course). Will prob post at least one more story before I go. Hope to see some activity by the time I get back. http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.folklore.va

    1. Re: [VAFRANKL] Interpreting marriage bonds
    2. LOWELL BROWN
    3. Yes, William Likens and Margaret Ritter, daughter of Susannah (Ritter), establihed a marriage Bond, Jan. 13, 1790. Surety for the Bond was Marcus Likens. John Ritter and Delilah Wilson, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Wilson) established Bond Mar.18, 1793, Surety for the Bond was Joseph Ritter. These marriages then took place at a later date. The above procedure was to assure that the marriage would actually occur. Lowell Marcia Loughry wrote: > > Can someone explain to me what the following text from the Virginia Marriage Bonds means? 2. wmhunt
    3. Hi all. Normally I wouldn't have anything to add to this clear message, but later thought it might be of interest to some that a number of Confederate soldiers who were imprisoned at Camp Chase were freed at the end of the war and went home after taking the Oath of Allegiance to the U. S. If you are perhaps trying to find an ancestor who was of an age to have service but haven't found him, he might have been one of those who survived. Some years ago, not knowing much about my gr-grandfather except that he was said to "drive an ambulance", I wrote to Natl. Archives in Washington, D. C. and received several pages of his service record including the information he was captured at the Battle of Nashville, held prisoner and then released. He went home to Alabama and found his family starving and his land and buildings in shambles. This latter information came from his eldest daughter who lived until 1951.
