Hi Lisa! Please don't get the idea that I profess to be a FERGUSON expert, because I am far from it. But Richard WILSTEAD is knowledgeable - so I am going to quote from what he posted in GenForm under 'RE: Fergusons of Franklin Co, VA early 1700 thru late 1800' - posted 13 MAY 1998. You might want to search for his total information. The info that he has on William's brother George is incorrect - beings I connect at that point, I know better - just happens to be a 'tricky' connection - but we have discussed this & hopefully have it worked out correctly now. He is a very nice & helpful gentleman. But anyway - he states that William FERGUSON was b. about 1749 - d. 1824, m. Mrs. Sarah FERGUSON abt 1755. He possibly has William's 'Will'. I really don't know. He DOES list Margaret (Peggy) FERGUSON, b. abt 1777, d. bef 1824, m. Isaiah Joshua WRIGHT abt 1778. He lists Peggy's children & he lists the siblings of Peggy. If you wish to contact him direct - rickw@goodnet.com I hope that I have been of 'some' help to you. Cheers! I am researching Minnix, descended from Charles and Rachel Minnix. My line is C. Haywood (& Branchie Trent) Minnix, s/o E. Gordon Minnix(& Florine Evans) Minnix, s/o John Minnix (by second wife, Lucy Clowdis Carwile), all of Campbell County VA, s/o Daniel (& Mary Rudder) Minnix of Halifax County, VA, s/o Charles and Rachel Minnix of Franklin. The name has been variously spelled as Minnix/Minix/Menix/Mennix/Menox. I have a tombstone from the Minnix cemetery in Halifax (now destroyed when a hog farm was put there - this was the only surviving piece, and the present owners gave it to me since no one else in the Minnix family had ever contacted them) of the 4 y/o daughter of either John and his first wife Edness Tynes, I would think, since te child's bd was 1854 and death was 1858 and her name was spelled Menix. On Daniel's marriage license in early 1820's, his name is spelled 4 different ways. He signed it Minnix. Am interested in hearing from and corresponding w/any Minnix's or anyone connected w/this family. Any information to share would be appreciated as I have developed a spinal related health problem in the last few months that severly limits what I can do and how long I can sit. MRI's this Sat, surgery probably, so will be at computer as often as I can, but not every day for sure. Best wishes & thanks in advance, Amelia CM Smith Minnix/Minix/Menix/Mennix/Menox, also Evans, Wingfield, Trent, Jordan, Clowdis, Carwile,
Hi, Can anyone identify the children of William Ferguson that was living in Franklin County in 1800? I am hoping there was only one. Looking to see if he possibly had a daughter named Peggy Ferguson. Thanks for any help. Lisa
I would like to ask for a look-up on the 1830 Franklin Co. census for a Samuel James. He should be about 30 yrs. and was wondering if the census would show if there were others living in his household. With much appreciation, Bev

According to the book, ABSTRACTS OF THE EIGHTEEN CENTURY DEED BOOKS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, VIRGINIA, Vol I & Vol II by Sara M. Beck, Daniel Hixon bought land on the waters of Otter Creek from John Smith, deed dated April 6, 1789. Daniel Hixon was my gggggggrandfather, his daughter, Ruth Hickson/Hixon m. Daniel Smith, who also owned land on Otter Creek. Deeds in above book show that Daniel Smith and Daniel Hixon's land adjoined each other's. I have very little info on Daniel Hixon, where did he immigrate to Franklin County from? Who did he marry or the names of any of his descendants? Would appreciate any info provided. Also, I saw the above books in the Franklin County library a couple of years ago, does anyone know if they are available for purchase. I can't remember if it was a very recent publication or an old one. I was able to copy some pages but would love to have the books. Bev

Does anyone on the list have any information about the KERSEY aka KEIRSEY families of Charlotte and Franklin Cos VA? I am interested in finding informatiom about WILLIAM KERSEY, b. abt 1750/55, was m. to Sally (maiden name not known). They were in Franklin Co VA until abt 1805. One of his brothers John Kersey (m. Frances Hazelwood) also lived in Franklin Co. John eventually left and moved to Warren Co TN. WILLIAM and SALLY may have possibly gone to TN also. William and John's parents were Thomas Keirsey and Lucy. Other siblings were Isaac, Thomas, Richard and several sisters. I have all the info from Martha Keirsey Cooper's book., so I'm looking for additional information. I have reason to think that WILLIAM is possibly connected to my GG Grandfather George Kersey. Surely would appreciate any help. Pat

I want to thank those who went to the trouble of looking up Daniel Smith on the 1830 Franklin Co. census. You all were a "big" help!!! I am back to ask one more favor (I promise just one more), If you have a copy of the 1820 census I would like to ask if there is a Mr. Hancock who would be listed as the following: 1 male 5-10 1 male 10-40 1 female 5 or under 1 female 5-10 1 female 30-40 Anything close to this would be helpful. I have info that I need from the 1800 and 1810 census but lack the above. Thanks to all of you wonderful people on this list, Bev

Hi again, Pine Creek Primitive Baptist church cemetery might be in Floyd county if anyone can identify its location. Lisa
Hi, Can anyone tell me where the Pine Creek Primitive Baptist church cemetery is in Franklin County?? Thanks. Lisa
Hi everyone! I am new to the list & hope there is someone who might be able to help me because I have sleuthed just about as far as I think that I can at this time. I apologize for this being a long message. George FERGUSON was b. c1770, unknown where, but he first appeared in Franklin County Deed records in 1793 when he & 'a' William FERGUSON sold some land on the branches of Story Creek, which intimates that he had that land, naturally prior to that time. I have seen where someone believes that George was a s/o John FERGUSON & Elizabeth "_______". John FERGUSON is believed to have d. c1789 in Franklin Co, VA, & that Elizabeth d. c1806 in Franklin Co, VA, but I have no proof of this parentage. According to Marriage Bonds of Franklin Co, VA, George FERGUSON & Polly CRUMP received their Marriage Bond on 25 OCT 1797. George & Polly had several children, names not certain to me with the exception of two children still living when George FERGUSON wrote his "Will" on 1 JAN 1836 & "Codicil" on 23 MAR 1836. Polly was already deceased apparently prior to the 1830 Franklin Co, VA, census because she is not listed, altho she is reported to have d. 1836. George apparently had over 3,100 acres of land, possibly a whole lot more, with a mansion, & 74 very valuable slaves, as well as other monies & bonds because he apparently was a tobacco grower, cotton grower & corn grower. George died prior to 3 OCT 1836 because that is the date that the inventory appraisal was filed. There was a WILLIS that owed him around $40.00 & that was Mark WILLIS, f/o Hardin WILLIS. George & Polly were my gggg grandparents. His "Will" went into great detail of how he wanted his large Estate disbursed. The two named children involved were Charles FERGUSON & Sally aka Sarah WILLIS, who was obviously a widow with 2 small daughters, that he identified as Miram & Abigail. Charles had 3 small daughters that were identified as Mary Elizabeth, Susan & Sophy Anne. Then there was another granddaughter named Eliza HIETT, apparently her parents both were deceased at that time, thus Eliza's mother had to have been one of George's deceased daughters. Within the next year, Sarah "FERGUSON"-WILLIS & John DOUGHTEN received their marriage bond on 30 MAY 1837 in Franklin Co, VA & apparently they were both deceased prior to the 1840 census, as well as Charles FERGUSON. I never could figure out who was the WILLIS husband of Sarah aka Sally FERGUSON! They were my ggg grandparents. There were only 3 that were in the 1830 census, that did not show up in the 1840 census & fell in the right age category. They were William WILLIS, John WILLIS, & Izaiah WILLIS. In my 'mind' Izaiah WILLIS is the most likely candidate at this time, but I can not prove it. Any help available???? [Hardin WILLIS would have worked out real fine as far as I was concerned, but he continued to live, family identified etc. - BUT he m. Mariam CHITWOOD.] Miram soon became Miriam on the records! Miriam "WILLIS" & Eli HAMBRICK received their marriage bond on 18 MAY 1847, m. by John BOWMAN, thus apparently they DID marry on that date. Eli disappeared from Miriam's life before the 1850 census. In the 1850 Franklin County, VA, census, Miriam HEMBRICK was living with her sister, Abigail S. WILLIS, who m. William JONES in 1847. So guess who the very next door neighbor is? Hardin WILLIS & his bride, Marian CHITWOOD! And they have a daughter named Miriam, age 7. There HAS to be a connection there somewhere, but I am not smart enough to figure it out. Any help available??? Miriam "WILLIS" HAMBRICK m. Edward aka Edwin Cornelius HATCHER on 2 JAN 1851, or soon after, according to the Marriage Bonds of Franklin Co, VA. They were my gg grandparents. On 4 NOV 1857, Miriam & Edwin HATCHER sold the land allotted to Miriam [and/OR her mother] out of the land belonging to George FERGUSON, her share amounting to 1,650.99 acres of land described as on Pig River & Story Creek in Franklin Co, VA. Soon after Miriam & Edwin married, they moved on into Floyd Co, VA, where she d. 5 JAN 1862 of comsumption. Edwin re-married to Decia Emaline "LESTER". Before Edwin d. 13 OCT 1884 in Floyd Co, VA, also of comsumption, he had fathered 18 known children & Decia lived on thru 1890. If anyone can help me in my 'problem areas', I surely would be forever grateful. Will share. Cheers! Rosie
