How do we get a copy of the tax bill for these people? I found my ancestor in the list. JOHN ROBINSON.. Margaret
Bob, John Stewart is on the 1786 Franklin Co tax list or census. As you can see by Hill`s lists, a William Stewart who lived on the Blackwater River was listed. John is also on the 1774 Pittsylvania Co tax list next to Daniel WARD, on the 1778-1780 Henry Co tithables and on the 1782 Henry CO VA P.P. Tax list. Yes, his land was near the Bedford CO line and I have found him on Bedford Co tax lists from abt mid 1780`s to 1789. I am trying to track him, as we believe his daughter Selah/Celia Stewart married Benjamin WARD , half brother to Daniel Ward. What was his name? You'd have to order the microfilm. Do you have access to your local Family History Center? Teresa, this was the list taken by Hill. So, it's only a partial list of all of Henry Co. I believe that your John Stewart probably is on another list, but at the time that I had access to the microfilm, I didn't get that info. Sorry. Dear Friends: Back to the question of Henry PO: (Taken from a "Young-Pearson Reunion" booklet dated Aug. 1997) PURITY was established as a postoffice in 1894, but was discontinued shortly thereafter. ALUMINE was established in 1893 with Stokley Dyer as postmaster, but was discontinued after a few years of service. Both ALUMINE and PURITY were absorbed into the newly established postoffice at HENRY in 1908. Obviously HENRY was named after the Patriot, Patrick Henry. The SYDNORSVILLE Postoffice was named for Beverly Sydnor who ran "Mr. Sydnor's Ordinary" and store in the 1830's for a number of years. That location is ten or more miles east/northeast from Henry area, on what is now State Rte. 220, south of Rocky Mt., Va. And obviously the younger formed counties, Patrick and Henry were also named for Patrick Henry, when they were separated from Bedford and/or Pittsylvania County. Right? Regards to All. Mary Frith

Ken, I have a note saying there were 15 children of John and Frances (Burke) Smith. I do NOT have all the children's names...would appreciate knowing more about your line. Was Ann Nancy Smith the daughter of John & Frances? Do you know if she had a sister named Hannah Frances? Hannah Frances Smith was my 4th great grandmother. She married John Robertson on 3 Sep 1804 in Franklin County. Thanks for your help! Ken DeLong
Hi Mona, I have a Frances English;, born July 23, 1811 (could be off by a year!) died January 23, 1896, married James Robertson in 1831. She is daughter of George Lewis English and Ann "Nancy" (Smith) English, of Franklin County. She is mentioned as "Fanny" in the will of George Lewis English: "To my daughter Fanny English, one third part of all my tract of land in Franklin, after taking therefrom one hundred acres for my wife, but at her death, I give her one third part of the one hundred acres given to my wife also one negro girl naemd Sally..." (Will dated 26 July 1829). George Lewis English was son of Stephen English and Dinah (Haynes) English. He was born between 1765/1770 in Bedford County, VA, married 18 August 1790 Bedford County, VA. His estate was inventoried by 4 October 1830, so he likely died by then. Ann "Nancy" (Smith) English died 28 December 1852, Franklin County, Virginia. Kathy [email protected]
