My names are Joseph Jarrell and Elizabeth (Martin?) Joseph Jarrell born abt 1829 I believe they were married in Floyd Co VA they are seen on the 1850 census record in Franklin Co.VA. and the 1860 Census records in Franklin Co.VA. Living next door to them were John Jarrell and Anney Martin married 1848 in Floyd Co VA.they have a son named John A.Jarrell abt 2 years old. Joseph Jarrell and Elizabeth (Martin?) had an America Jarrell living with them age 9 in the 1850 census record can find nothing on Amercia at all after that census record.I believe that Elizabeth and Anney were sisters and daughters of Matthew Martin in Franklin Co. VA. he was born abt.1773 died in Franklin Co. abt 1853 married Edith Staton abt1812.My Underwood connection is also through Misniah Cannaday and Samuel Underwood . Joseph and Elizabeth had Samuel Jarrell who married Martha Underwood descendant of the Samuel Underwoods they were married abt 1870 .Daughter of Samuel Underwood and Rebecca Hollins/Hol! land I have nothing on Rebecca except that here parents were John and Mary Hollins/Holland and that she was born in Montgomery or Floyd Co VA.So my names I am looking for info on are Jarrell,Holland or Hollins ,Cannaday,Martin and Underwood.Do not know who Matthew Martins father was or proof that Elizabeth and Anney were Martins married to Jarrells.Samuel ,Dennis and Lucinda Jarrell married Noah, Ellender, and Martha Underwood 3 sisters and brothers married 3 sisters and brothers.Samuel Dennis and Lucinda were sons and daughter of Joseph Jarrell and Elizabeth.Found a Civil War Pension at the library of va dated 1889 an Elizabeth Jarrold filed for her husbands pension says Joseph Jarrold died in 1863 in the Civil War I think that might be my Jospeh and Elizabeth as in the 1870 census record in Franklin Co Elizabeth is a widow. Thanks so much Gloria ~Wehali Usdi~<Look not at the Eyes but at the Soul>

One of these Samuels was born ca 1826, and the other was born ca 1850; both were born in Virginia. There were Cannaday families living throughout southern West Virginia by mid-1800 and thereafter. When you do your search for "CANNADAY" don't forget to search also for "CANADA." That is how the West Virginia census takers spelled it initially. : ) Sue Maynor Thompson

Marla, this is weird. Was this done by Daniel Carlin or his brother Thomas? 1/4 of thse people on this list are related to me and my Stewart`s. I can tell you from seeing this, that this area was Paul`s Creek,. Peter`s Creek, Stony Creek and also part of Elk Creek. If you have any more district bring them on please! Yes I have access to films at the local LDS Library, do you know the number of the film? I can check for it. I know he owned property before 1790, as he left VA by then. He and his brothers signed petitions to form Bedford and Franklin Co. into smaller units to help residents when they had to make trips to court or anything like that. My ancestor was JOHN ROBINSON/ROBERTSON/ROBERSON son of Thomas of Franklin Co. I believe he was a surveyor, and served in the Rev. War. But having signed the petitions, makes him eligible as a Patriot. I do not know his wife's name except it MAY have been Elizabeth. Not the ones that were married in Franklin Co. and remained there until they died. Mine went to NC. Margaret

Margaret, that's great!!The number is 2024588. Do you want to know how to look these microfilm numbers up right there at home? This will help anyone out who has access to a local LDS library, where they can order microfilms. Go to: Familysearch.org on your computer. Click on the "Library" tab at the top. Click on "Family History Library Catalog" at the top. Click on "Place Search". Enter into the search engine Place: Henry; Part Of: Virginia Click on the blue highlighted "Virginia, Henry" Scroll down to "Virginia, Henry--Taxation" and click on it. Click on "Personal Property Tax Lists, 1782-1851" At the top of the next screen, click on "View Film Notes" near the top right side. It will bring up film numbers, which in this case is 2024588. Got it? Hope it helps!! As to John Stewart, in 1785, everything north of the Blackwater was still part of Bedford County. ----- Original Message ----- From: "m.moore1 " <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 14, 2005 1:57 PM Subject: Re: [VAFRANKL] Tax List by Hill > Bob, it was Swinfield Hill that took the list. > Marla > > > On Sat, 14 May 2005 13:40:21 -0400 > "Bob Hodges" <[email protected]> wrote: > > I would recommend looking at the original list from the Virginia State > > Library and Archives. I would recommend looking at the original list from the Virginia State Library and Archives. The list for the Hodges I made from the microfilm of the original is as follows: 1785 Issiah Hodges Wm. Hodges & John Hodges Meshick Hodges Isham Hodges Ebednigo Hodges "Issiah" is probably the one Mrs. Hill has as "Vitoll". I am pretty sure his name was actually Josiah. She missed William and John completely. Generally, the tax book only has a few numbers, such a the number of tithables, horses, cattle, and maybe one or two other items. I have been through all of the Franklin lists up to about 1870 and have some definite views as to the (lack of) completeness and accuracy of the tax lists. Still, they are the best source there is of year by year information on who lived in the county, and I am convinced that the census takers used the personal property tax lists to help them do the census.
