Kenn, Do you know if Charles Buford Wills had a brother or son named James? Thanks, Ken DeLong
A couple of days ago while reseaching the Mitchell Family, I found a marriage record for William Anglea and Sarah Mithchell in Bedford County, VA on 6 Apr 1797. I found this family listed in the census records in Franklin County, VA several years later, but the spelling of their name was Angell. Does anyone know if the Angle, Angel, and Angell families of Bedford and Franklin Counties share the same origin? Thank you very much for your help! Ken DeLong
Kenn: What a wonderful piece of knowledge to add to your family tree for generations to come. And I know that much patience and searching is involved and can be so beneficial in the end. You are one of the lucky ones. When I started my family research about two years ago, like many neophytes, I was more concerned with my family's direct lines than the collateral ones. As I have learned more, I have realized the value of including as many related people as possible as there are always unseen links. Late the other evening I was working on my wife's side of the family. I was adding the children and grandchildren of Thomas Moorman (1705-1767) and Rachel Clark (1714-1792). I entered their daughter, Rachel Moorman who married Stephen Googins and their daughter Parmelia Goggins (1775-1845) who married Samuel Clemens (1770-1805). It was late as most of my internet research is done during those quiet hours and I remarked that it was cool that this Mr. Clemens had a similar name to the famed author who later uses the name of Mark Twain. I went to bed, but the next morning, was looking at Eula Fergueson Angle's book where she mentions that the Goggins/Clemens couple were the grandparents of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. I could not believe it! In order to get other evidence, I goggled Samuel Langhorne Clemens and his family. I found a site dedicated to his genealogy and again, he was traced by to the Parmelia Goggins and Samuel Clemens. The upshot of all of this is that Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain) is my wife's 3 cousin, 5 times removed. Their shared common ancestors are Thomas Moorman and Rachel Clark. They are my wife's 6 great grandparents and Mark Twain's 2 great grandparents. Of course, that is so extreme as to hardly count, but it is fun to know. I was reminded anew of how one nugget can change much or add a totally different perspective. I also learned that it might be wise to review any and all work done past midnight! I always enjoy reading the posting of you other folks and what you are learning. Thought I would just share a minor experience with you this morning. Have a great holiday! Kenn M. Good Morning All You Good People! Just 4 more weeks ! ! ! We need an approximate count of the people who will be coming to the picnic this year on June 25th. So far we have 141 give or take a few. Allison has a lot planned and we hope you all will be able to come. I also need to know about how many each person will be bringing - doesn't have to be an exact count - we always plan for extra's. If you haven't already sent me this information Please e-mail me privately at: [email protected] If you are new to the List and don't know about the Researcher's Picnic 2005 please read about it at: <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~barbs/picnic_2005.html>Picnic 2005 Thanks, Barb S. Seems her and her sister swapped names and are identified in documents to confuse things further. Seems that each went by Chloe or Mary and both went by nickname of Polly. Abednego Hodges gave permission for his daughter Chloe to marry William Steagall then later on she is referred to as Mary or Polly. Anyway I am a descendant of William and Mary/Chloe (Hodges) Steagall. I would like to get the name thing straightened out, but the deeper I dig the more confusing it becomes. 1. When the balance of Abed's pension was paid out after his death in 1842, his heirs were identified as Chloe Stegall, Mary Richards, and Elisha Hodges. 2. The marriage bonds identify the wife of William Steagall as Mary and the wife of David Richards as Polly, usually a nickname for Mary. 3. The Census identifies the Steagall wife as Chloe in 1850 (she apparently died before the 1860 census), and the Richards wife as Mary in 1850 (with no David), and Polly in 1860. Have fun searching the Hodges family......LOL Dan Cook

I have a general question. I notice several Rootsweb sites that list hundreds of ALTICK. Also sites that list ALTICE in Franklin Co. What seems strange to me is the Franklin Co Heritage Soc. cemetery listing has about 150 ALTICE and only 1 ALTICK. My question is ALTICE & ALTICK used as the same? Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Jim Denlinger

But I'm writing to ask if you have come across a Simpson RICHARDS in you research. I can't get a handle on his origins. Simpson RICHARDS was b. about 1804, and married November 01, 1832 in Floyd CoVA, Nancy VEST, dau. of Littleberry VEST. Nancy was b. August 18, 1816 in Franklin CoVA and d.
