A number of years ago in the publication Franklin County:Yesterday and Today there was a story about this property and the buildings on it that talked about the old cabin that went back at least to the time when James Kemp owned the property. James Kemp bought the property from Robert Hodges in 1841. Robert Hodges disappeared from the personal property tax lists after 1844 because he moved to Tennessee. Whent he article was written the property was still owned by the descendants of James Kemp. I think that the cabin may date from Robert Hodges; ownership because in 1825 the notation "improvement added" appears in the land tax records. I think may relate to Isham Hodges' marriage to Sarah Harvey in 1824. I suspect that a new home was built, either for Isham, or for Robert and Isham took the old one. I would like to go by sometime and see it, too. I did get a message from a Jesse descendant. Bob

Hi Bob, I've been meaning to ask if you think the cabin built in 1824 as an improvement to Robert Hodges property is still there? I would love to visit it sometime. Unfortunately that sometime will have to be when I no longer have to care for my husband. I am his sole caregiver and that's now 24/7. He is having many little strokes which a recent MRI reveal have done a lot of damage. When he passes, I will return him to Clarksville, TN for burial. I will not go that far east and not make another trip to VA. If you recall he and I follow the example of our forefathers and are second cousins on both our Doss and Hodges lines. Then there is our Yount line.... I wrote the lady who was inquiring about her husband's descendency from Jesse Hodges. No response. Have you heard any more from her? Kay Moris
You can say that again. In looking over that last message, think that the clerk of the court has two different men labeled as John Martin Jr. I don't think that I've ever seen anyone designated as the third III before--except if he's from a prominant family--which I don't think that there are any in our little group in Franklin Co. I looked for Archibald Reynolds in the 1810 Census, but didn't find him. At least this James Martin has his children all accounted for. According to what I've seen, John Martin Sr. had a will--but I don't know if it is in the FC Will Book or not. Marla, I have been looking through your documents and comparing it to what I have. I had a couple of questions on the John Martin. I noticed in the Personal Property Tax Lists, starting in 1782, two John Martins. John Martin Sr. you thought was born about 1718 and died about 1812. You indicated that he had a son John Martin born about 1776, married to Nancy Spangler, whose will I think is the one in 1818. I noticed that about 1800 there were three John's on the Personal Property Tax Rolls. I found a marriage of Reynolds, Archibald and Betsey Ann Martin, Dau. John, Aug 27, 1808 Sur. John Martin Jr. Franklin County Marriages, Wingfield's Works, pg. 192 Could there have been three generations of John's? JoAnn
