I am trying to link up with someone that is doing research on the MARTIN family. My ancestor, Susannah Martin was born about 1739, married Henry Woody and is buried in Franklin co, VA. I believe she was daughter of JOSEPH MARTIN and SUSANNAH CHILES. Does anyone have proof of this idea? Susannah and Henry were married in Goochland Co., VA. Henry was in Revolutionary War as was his son MARTIN (first born of Henry and Susannah). I would appreciate any clue that anyone has on this problem. I do plan to go back to Casey County, perhaps week after next, and will look to see if there's anything on the Pedigos. My main purpose yesterday was to get the following marriage records: 1) Thomas Pemberton, son of Lydia and Henry, and Anne Lane; 2) their daughter Malinda and George Wilcher; and 3) their son John T. Wilcher and Bettie Florence Wilcher. I found all three of those as well as the document someone on the VA Frankl site referenced which identified Lydia as the wife of Henry and daughter of Edward (Deed Book 2, p. 375). It was just where someone said it would be. I needed these to complete my 88-year-old mother's DAR application and was surprised to talk with two of her contemporaries, both Cochran descendants, one of whom knew her parents. No one has joined the DAR on Lydia's line and I need to provide proof all the way back to Edward. Those I have been in contact with on your site may be the most generous genealogical group in the world! You are all amazingly knowledgable and generous with your information. Thank you. I wish every county had a group like you. Cockerham/Cochran/Cochren descendants: Yesterday (4/20/07) I went to Casey County, Kentucky, for research on descendants of Edward Cochran. His sons Preston and Isom/Isham as well as their two sisters, Leah Cochran Pedigo and Lydia Cochran Pemberton, settled there. Seems at least half the county must be related in some way. We went to Emma's Rest. for lunch where the owner is a Cochran descendant and the only other three patrons were also identified as Cochran "kin." We also went to the home of a Cochran from this line. It was a very interesting, productive day of research at the courthouse in Liberty as well as with the people we met. If anyone is researching descendants of these children of Edward, Casey County would be a great place to start. Fran Romine

William Ray married Hope Sutton on 06 Jan 1796 in Bedford Co. The family lived in Frankllin Co. I believe they had James Ray, probably born soon after, and Elizabeth Ray, born about 1815-1820. Elizabeth married Milton R. Hurt on 7 Dec 1846 in Franklin Co. Does anyone know if there were other children born to William Ray? I believe his second wife was Clarissa Wells. Thank you. There was a migration to VA from MD a little prior to 1805. If I recall, there is a Warren family in MD. Archives of MD is on line and easily searchable. It's a wonderful resource.

You might have to go to another county for your records. Franklin wasn't formed until 1786, from several surrounding counties. If you have them in Henry County in 1783 that might be the place to look. Beverly

I am new to this list. I am researching Thomas and his son Zachariah. I have the will of Thomas, but can find little else on this family. I am trying to prove Zachariah's age and where he was born. I have Zachariah in a land record selling land to Abednego Hogdes about 1805 in Franklin Co., VA. I also have Zachariah in the Henry Co., tax records from 1780-83. I haven't been able to find anything before this time period. Can someone please help me? Kathy ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
