Hello, I am looking for any information on Samuel Johnson/Johnston and his wife Elizabeth Shepherd. They were married December 19, 1831 in Fluvanna County, VA. Their oldest son, Thomas, states in his Civil War pension application that he was born in Buchanan, VA and married first to Sarah Penn in Rockbridge County, VA. The entire family eventually settled (for a time) in Missouri. Thanks, Donna Price
Dear Bill, Thanks so much for your reply. I have all the info on Joab, but the researcher who sent me the info had not researched Absolam or his sister, Eliza King. Absolam and Eliza are both in my ancestry as my ggg grandparents. If your GEDCOM has any information on Absolam or Eliza (who married James M. Wright) I would love to have it. I am unaware of Absolam KING but have a great deal of information on Joab KING and Nancy WHITE. Joab was the son of Joseph KING and Mourning (?). There are at least 4 other Joab KINGs descended from him. Joseph was the son of Daniel KING who came to Fluvanna County we believe through Hanover County. If you'd like additional information please let me know and I will email you a GEDCOM file. Bill Brooks "W. I'm seeking information about the Palmer Manor bed and breakfast in Fluvanna, Co. It was the home of my ggg grandfather Richard R. McCary. He was also the actual builder of it, and my gg grandfather James Calvin McCary was the last McCary born in the house. I am aware that the place was recently sold by Greg Palmer. Can anyone tell me the name of the new owner and it's present status. Charles M. Cook

Kristina, I have a real problem (in France). My ancestor came to Flu. Co., married there 1826, that is all I know. Need to check ships in the Virginia coast...Hampton , etc. He would have been a crewman ,I think. How much for that service? Can you do research in France or French ? He was a crazy Frenchman. Thanks Every path has a puddle. D.J.R.
Ancestors in Virginia? Research is Available. What I have discovered after many years of research, is the following: 1. if your ancestor wasn't famous, or didn't have 10 childern, chances are you are not going to find him or her on the family tree maker cd's or onthe internet. 2.when trying to do research thru these lists, people can probably point you in the right direction, but probably can't give you the information you are looking for. 3. researching long distance is expensive. with the price of gas, and hotels, and planes. So what i am offering is to do some of the leg work for you here in virginia. and IN VIRGINIA ONLY AT THIS TIME. here's the deal most of us have brick walls, what i am offering is to break it down for you. for a flat fee of $17 i will go to the library and search for one hour, all the books and other reference material on hand. and i have seen books containing marriage records for almost all of virginia. and death and some birth. etc. including some land records. this includes mailing you the copies and making the copies. plus one hour of my time. for a flat fee of $50 I will do four hours of research, this will include all of the above PLUS CENCUS AND NEWSPAPERS. it takes a long time to look thru cencus reel by reel and newspapers on micro fische, i have spent 8 hours on those things easy, never even saw the time go...... this includes 4 hours of search and 10 for photo copies. the last offer on the table, is the RARELY EVER USED AND RARELY EVER OFFERED. and only for the most desparate, is a fee of $100 which includes a trip to the actual town, county, cemetery, library, etc all. i live in va beach, and is generally a four hour trip to most locations in va. this would also include a trip to the DAR library in DC. which i belong to. AND THIS WOULD ONLY BE USED AFTER ALL OTHER AREAS HAVE BEEN EXHAUSTED. email me if you are interested in my services. genealogy is a great thing. i love helping people. kristina frmrnyr@aol.com
Jane, The name of McGeehee, although spelled differently at times, was a prevalent name in Southern Indiana around the early 1800's. Somebody just sent me a message and he signed it Kidd (yet another VA migration name!) and I think that you have come real close. Have you checked out the Bureau of Land Management's site for Indiana? There are alot of Meltons listed. Elisha may have belonged to that slew of Meltons that settled in Harrison county IN. that I am trying to connect to. I will send you any news of the names you mentioned as they come in. Thank you, very much, Darla Darla, Leander TX. Searching for Melton-Hanson VA, NC, TN, KY and IN
Dan, Thank you for replying. They may be my Meltons, the names of Lucy and John had been handed down AND the 1820 census for Lawrence county IN has 2 Kidds listed. William and Lewis. That is good news because it means that the Kidds were probably yet another family that migrated from VA to IN. Thank you so much, Darla Darla, Leander TX. My ancestor, Mary Elizabeth Melton who married Thomas Henry Perkins, MD was born in Louisa County but died in Fluvanna Co., in 1865. Her father was Elisha Melton and her grandfather was Thomas Melton who married Lydia McGeehee. (I don't know where these people were born or died) Could any of these be related to your Meltons???? .......Jane H Lomel
dear darla, my ancestor Lucy Melton married john in albemarle county may 1792 ,william melton was on the marriage bond but i don,t know if he was her father. Fluvannna county was formed from Albemarle .respectfully Dan Kidd
Hello Fluvannna! I am searching all over Virginia for Melton information in the hopes of connecting my ggggrandfather to some family. His name is Nathaniel Melton b. 1785 in VA and he married Elizabeth Hanson b. 1793 in VA. They settled in Lawrence county IN in between 1817 and 1820. Anything will be appreciated. Thank you, Darla Darla, Leander TX. Searching for Melton-Hanson VA, NC, TN, KY and IN
