I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who responded to my earlier apology regarding the Archives. You have all been SO supportive!!! It really means alot to me. I would have preferred to answer you all individually, but there were so MANY responses!!! I did want to answer a couple of questions that I received though. Yes, I do take care of the archives on a volunteer basis, and I continually stretch myself to take care of as many counties as I can because I, like you, want to make sure that new files do continue to be uploaded and that the counties are cared for. Sometimes I have the time & energy to do a fantastic job updating the pages on a timely basis, and sometimes, I just don't have what it takes. But all in all, I love taking care of the Archives and watching them grow. I think it's a wonderful way to volunteer my time & hope I'll be able to continue to do so for a very long time. I have completed the uploads for July, minus a couple of small changes that need to be made and also minus the scanned documents. My next goal is to complete those & then I'll move on to the new files received in August. Then I will send notification to the individual county lists for all the new files uploaded during July & August. After that, I will start work on organizing some new counties that I have adopted. Once those pages are updated, I'll subscribe to the mailing lists for those counties & notify the folks there that the counties now have a new archivist who will TRY to post new files on a timely basis :) I'm sure those folks will be happy as I don't believe those counties have had anything new posted in quite some time. Once again, thanks so much for your support and all your kind words!!! It's good to know that there are real people out there (and nice ones too!) that are benefiting from my time & effort. Thanks again, you're the best!!! ------ =_NextPart_000_01C00E15.142D7780 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Michele; Your first entry, Joseph and Frankey BRAGG, woke me up... I'm researching the children of a John BARTLEY who lived in Culpeper Co, VA from 1760 to 1791 and then moved to Fluvanna Co, VA where he died in 1807. His oldest daughter, Joanna m a BRAGG (perhaps Richard or...), and then she died before her father's Will in 1807. John's youngest daughter, Frances "Frankey" m abt 1795 prob in Fluvanna George EIDSON - I haven't found him in the census. Could it be that Frankey BARTLEY EIDSON m her sister's husband BRAGG? In any case, since you're researching BRAGGs, do you know which BRAGG m Joanna BARTLEY? If we have this BARTLEY family pegged right, John BARTLEY was born John BARTLETT, son of Thomas BARTLETT in Richmond Co, VA (Will 1767 recorded 1783), and he married Anne SETTLE daughter of Henry SETTLE whose 1770 Will in Richmond Co, VA mentioned his daugher Anne BARTLETT and grdau Joanna BARTLETT - which means Joanna was b bef 1770. The North Farnham Parish records have Henry's Anne SETTLE born in 1728 (someone else has reported this as 1738 - I'll have to recheck). By the way Culpeper Co, VA records show John BARTLEY had a wife Anne; and other records show 2 of his granddaughters were named Anne Settle PARRISH and Anne Settle BALLINGER - almost certainly after their grandmother... Hoping you can shed some light on our BRAGG mystery.... The problems accessing the Fluvanna site are strange. All during the time this exchange has been going on, I've logged on with no problem...countless times. I'm using Netscape. Can some of you just be trying to log on when a server is busy. Charlie in Louisiana Bayou Country
I sent this email to the BARTLETT and Richmond Co, VA lists, but also wanted to include Fluvanna Co, VA - John BARTLETT became John BARTLEY in Culpeper Co, VA 1760-1791 when he sold his land and moved to Fluvanna Co, VA, where he died in 1807. I'd appreciate any info on him or his descendants. tnx, I have been collecting info on all Colonial Virginia BARTLETTs and have been putting them togeter in family pieces, chronologically by VA County - grouping the counties that grew from each other or were on common migration routes - I'm up to 16 pages of Word doc with lots of families. I'm going to "publish" some of that info here, and I welcome feedback, corrections, insights, and certainly any new information. Richmond Co, VA Thomas BARTLETT b c1705; Will dated 1767, recorded 1783; names wife Catherine, sons John, James, Joseph, Thomas and Elisha, and daus Anne (m Charles) JONES; Mary (m Thomas) SCOTT, Bathsheba (m Charles) FONES; and Sarah (m Joseph) SCATES. >From other records it appears that in addition to all his daughters, Thomas, John and Elisha at least were married - probably James and Joseph were too. It appears the 4 daughters and Elisha stayed in Richmond Co - there are other, later records for them, but not for the other sons. Some of us have now concluded that John BARTLETT moved to Culpeper Co, VA, perhaps by 1760, and the clerk recorded his name in many records as John BARTLEY up to 1791 (the literate clerk wrote the name the way he heard it, and the illiterate John couldn't tell any difference). However in 1788 John BARTLETT, of Culpeper Co, VA, sold the land in Richmond Co, VA that his father, Thomas, had willed him - there is no record of any BARTLETT in Culpeper Co, so this must be John BARTLEY (In addition: John BARTLEY's wife was named Anne, his oldest daughter was Joanna, and 2 granddaughters were Anne Settle BARRINGER and Anne Settle PARRISH - Thomas BARTLETT of Richmond Co neighbor was Henry SETTLE whose 1770 Richmond Co, VA Will mentioned daughter Anne BARTLETT and granddau Joanna BARTLETT - it all fits!!) Since we now know John went up the Rappa River to Culpeper about 1760; it's not hard to deduce that his brother Thomas BARTLETT, Jr also went up the Rappa River and settled on the north side in Fauquier Co, VA - this is my Thomas BARTLETT c1730-1806 who lived in Fauquier Co, VA 1768-1785 when he went to Harrison Co, VA with all of his sons. What will put the icing on the cake for this family will be to find out what happened to James and Joseph BARTLETT. James was the one who reported the 1767 Will to the Richmond Co court in 1783, but I can find no other records of him or Joseph. Does anyone have a clue - could either one of them have moved to Halifax/Pittsylvania/Henry/Patrick Co, VA area? There are lots of late 1700 and early 1800 records in adjacent Westmoreland Co, VA, but I think they may all be descendants of Elisha BARTLETT. Hope to hear from others on the Colonial Virginia BARTLETT puzzle(s) Please note my new email, Jim Bartlett jimbartlett@mindspring.com (new) Gaithersburg, MD

I just wanted to take this time to apologize to everyone for how far behind I have fallen with the Archives. This has been one heck of a summer :) But it's been fun, just extremely busy. I have updated the WV counties with files recieved during July, so those are already online for you to see. I am now working on the Virginia Counties. The first update I do will be for files rcvd in July, so if you've sent a file in August, it won't be on this update. I need to finish one month before I begin on another. My youngest just started kindergarten and I haven't started back to work yet, so next week I plan to spend getting everything all caught up. Assuming nothing goes wrong, I should have time to get it all done. Thank you all for your patience with me :) Also, I have inherited three new counties in Virginia and will begin working on those web pages after I have finished my work on the counties I have pending files for. Those counties are Goochland, Henrico, and Hanover. So be thinking of anything that you'd like to submit for those counties and soon I'll be posting new files there as well. Thanks again for all of you who have supported me and the archives. I hope to be more prompt in the future :) Jeannie ************* Now Available: "The Descendants of John Thomas Clay, Jamestown Immigrant and son of Sir John Clay of Wales" Also available: "The Descendants of James Bailey & Lucy Simms" For more info: http://www.trellis.net/users/madamx

Yes, it generally will resolve this issue as well as many other AOL issues. Photo compression and bandwidth problems will continue to exist .... but that's another story ..... Thanks for mentioning it! After nearly three months without a problem, there appears to be a sudden rash of problems getting to the content of the Fluvanna County web site. I build commercial web sites, aside from being the webmaster for the Fluvanna site, and this type of problem is not unusual. The problem primarily occurs to AOL users. I have a dial-up with a local ISP as well as AOL. I can reach the Fluvanna site without any problems with the local ISP. It was hit or miss with AOL. I have noted with AOL that I can reach the site more consistently if I type in the full URL including "http:// ....". If is primarily a directory issue with AOL. I have had this problem, periodically, with AOL with many of my clients. This situation is just one of a number of issues I have with AOL. For AOL users, please note, bandwidth and directory-update problems are more troublesome with this provider than with many others. This is evident through web fic statistic reports which shows the largest percentageif no all of AOL traffic runs through their system in Virginia. My offer still stands that if this becomes a chronic problem, I will move the site(or create a mirror site on AOL) to another server. Frank Webb
I got it. I can get it going through the Va Gen Web now and clicking on Fluvanna County but if I type in the URL it will not come up. Getting in which every way is all that matters.
