Michele: Thanks for your email - below is what I have tried to determine the parentage of Caroline MANLEY - can you suggest something I've overlooked?? Any one?? (1) MARRIAGE BOND - Caroline married in 1849 to Shadrach Bishop, the marriage records her as an Orphan over 16 without a guardian. (2) WIDOW'S PENSION - Caroline pensioned in 1902 stating she was born in Fluvanna in 1830 and lived in Albemarle Co. since 1838. (3) WILLS - checked all the MAN(D)LEY wills in Fluvanna Co. - John & Micajah. The latter written in 1838 lists "children of my son Hezekiar", indicating that there was more than one and that son Hezekiah was dead by 1838. (4) FLUVANNA CO. SESSION - Oct.1834 - asks for an appraisal of Hezekiah Manley's estate, deceased. No other details :( (5) MARRIAGE - Sep. 1836 - Susan MANLEY, widow of Hezekiah, marries William CURRIER and seems to have left Fluvanna or died shortly after. (6) Hezekiah's brothers all seem to be living in 1838 and as later as 1849. Micajah MANLEY (father of Hezekiah) had brothers also, but they didn't remain in Fluvanna, nor did their families. (7) 1830 Census - lists Hezekiah with wife and ONE YOUNG SON - no daughters, but Caroline could have been born in 1830, AFTER the census. So...based on the above, Hezekiah is still my best candidate for Caroline's father. Susan (Bass) MANLEY, who married William CURRIER, would have been her mother. What happened to Susan after 1838 I don't know - that might hold the answer. Any suggestions most welcomed!! I haven't tried Church records - can you suggest any? Thanks. Hi Deanna, You're good for a laugh anytime. Actually -- the only thing wrong with your sending me all those cousins -- is that they didn't have any more or as much as we did. ;-( I just keep hoping someone somewhere will see our plea and have pity on us and give us the clues we need. Great to hear from you again. Good hunting. Best wishes, Ardie In a message dated 11/18/2000 6:33:29 PM Eastern Standard Time, Deannamail@aol.com writes: > . Hi Steve, I just thought I'd give it another run -- maybe someone new has signed on to the list and will have the clues we need. I am new to this list and needs some real help. Until yesterday I was wondering if my great grandmother was an alien from Mars or some unknown galaxy. Seriously I knew she was but from documentation I have received she was born in four different states and in three decades. New found information had my great grandmother ELLEN F. FORD being born May 1856 in Virginia. Now that I know she didn't just pop into this world or come on a flying saucer I am looking for information on her family, parents, and siblings. If you have Ford info please check for her. Also I need a CENSUS look up for 1860 and 1870. She married in April 1872 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you look for her in census records you have access to please let me know where you looked so I will know at least where she is not at in Virginia. Thanks you for you help. Patricia

Thomas Jefferson IV is the son of Randolph Jefferson brother of the President. Thomas IV was born about 1783 and married Mary Randolph Lewis 3 Oct 1808. They had Peter Field, Robert L and Mary Abigail. I have found the boys connected to their parents, but can't find Mary Abigail. I need some reference to her and her parents, christening, etc. I have looked at several books but she is not named. I may have her with the wrong parents. I haven't found a Mary Abigail anywhere, except named in the obituary of her daughter Elizabeth Jane Simpson in Macoupin Co, Illinois. Mary died 8 Jly 1836 in Macoupin Co Ill, but I haven't found where she is buried. She married, aboaut 1827, as his second wife, Seth Thomas Hodges of Sumner Tenn. He died 18 June 1841 and buried in Macoupin Co too, but no cemetery. I have copies of his probate. This is the proverbial needle in the haystack. Help! Marita
