It appears that Elizah W. Hylton was married to Mary (LNU) and they had 2 children in the 1900 census. This census shows that Elizah was about 70 years old and Mary was 47 years old. It looks to me like Elizah died between 1900 and 1910 and Mary remarried to John Henry Clapper (b. 1844 Bedford County, PA)in perhaps Kansas (Pawnee County). I am a little confused about this marriage as to whether or not I have the right John Clapper since I am connected through the Clapper line to this Hylton line...since the 1910 census does NOT show any of John Clapper's children living with them...although the next family in line in the census is a Leonard Clapper, which matches a child for John Clapper...and records on www.familysearch.org shows that John Clapper's first wife died in 1904 in Pawnee, Kansas. I would just feel better if SOME of John's children were living with them in the 1910 census so I could 100% verify that is the right John Clapper - oh well? Also living with John Clapper and Mary (Maiden Name Unknown) Hylton Clapper are the children of Mary Hylton Clapper and Elizah Hylton - Lala (now married but her husband is not living with her - he is in Colorado - teaching) and Clovis Hylton. In 1920, John Clapper and Mary Hylton Clapper are now living in California, as are Mary's daughter and her family. In 1930 John Clapper has died and Mary Hylton Clapper is found living with her daughter, Lala, and her family. SO...if I have the right family...and this is the correct information - I would appreciate ANY help in finding out Mary's maiden name...AND if Elizah was married prior to his marriage to Mary. I would also like to find out who Elizah's parent's are...and if Elizah connects into the Hylton family that appears to be a huge part of Floyd County's history? I sincerely thank you for any help you can provide. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
