Paul..... You are a little younger than I am. I remember some of the things about Appalachia, but not a lot. I remember the tipples, trains with coal cars filled with coal. I didn't get to go to town often. I saw my first Santa Claus there, I was so afraid of him. Ha. I saw the movie, Trail Of The Lonesome Pine and a few westerns. We used to go to BSG on the 4th of July. Everyone brought food for the day. Mama would buy ice crean and a case of soda pop to take. Some one delivered it to our door. The ice cream was in a wooden small barrel, it had ice or something around the ice cream so it wouldn't melt. They had all day singing. I don't remember a swimming hole there, there was a swinging bridge that we had a lot of fun on. I haven't seen the Wise Co history site, I'll look in to that. I also attended school at East Stone Gap Went by bus from Powell Valley. I know about where Radford is, but haven't been there. I now live in DeLand, Fl. It's 18 miles west of Daytona Beach. We have lived here since 1952 and love it. My husband and two of our friends went to the beach one night to see the full moon rise over the Atlantic. That was the most beautiful scene, I'll never forget it.
