Any of y'all Radford people know my mother in law? She lives in Radford on Preston St. (but lived for many years in a big house on 7th st.) Her name is June Collins and her late husband was Brady Collins. Her younger son (also passed on now) was Bobby Collins who was well known as a featured actor in the "Long Way Home" outdoor drama. just wonderin, since the conversation had turned to Radford... My husband's 1st step-dad also worked for the railroad and Clay says he remembers riding back and forth from Virginia Beach to come visit his grandmother until the family moved back to Radford. He says that they used to get off in Christiansburg because his mama didn't want to have to change trains in Roanoke to get to Radford. Kat: I asked Addie about the Collins family, but she doesn't remember them. My foster brother lived for years on Preston Street - Buddy (Delmar Frank) and Virginia Wirt Ford. Virginia claimed to be the meanest woman in Radford, and I believe her. Buddy was a drunk and Virginia told us she was marrying him just to teach him a lesson. I guess she did. Buddy quit drinking. No big surprise. Buddy was a runt and Virginia was at least 6" taller and probably 50 pounds heavier than him. Even in his death she was mean. Poor Buddy was dead, cremated and buried before any of the family knew about it. Last count she's still alive.
