    3. If anyone isn't tired of corn bread here is one more question. Has anyone eaten Cracklin' Corn bread? My Mother used to make it during hog killing time. It was very good. I haven't seen anyone mention poke sallet. We had it in early Spring. I haven't had it in years. I like turnip or mustard greens, but never developed a taste for spinach. I just went out and scraped the snow away and found a big batch of mustard greens for supper - NOT. All our snow is gone, but we did open up a can of mustard greens to go with our "Yankee" pork chops. Yes, I do like buttermilk. I like buttermilk and cornbread. About once a month my wife makes up a bunch of hoe cakes to go with our buttermilk and pintos. There's no way to get good buttermilk in Ohio - just the artificial city stuff. The farmers are not allowed to sell unpasteurized milk to the public. My mother used to make butter and buttermilk and her version of "cottage cheese" - it was made kind of in a loaf and thick enough to slice off. I loved it all. That's not bad for a person who will not drink "sweet milk" at all. Enough of this. I have to get ready for church. 3. I remember my mother making Cracklins' in the oven and then making the Cornbread but I was not fond of it. She and Daddy loved it. They also loved cornbread and buttermilk and so does my husband. He like the rest of you, remembers the good old days when it was real buttermilk and not store bought. 3. I was hoping noone was gonna mention poke sallet. And I know it is not as good but I have always drank store bought buttermilk, I ain't THAT old. Though I have helped on a friends dairy farm in Delton and drank the real milk before it left for Independence processing plant. ----- Original Message ----- From: "lois vick" <loho5@msn.com> To: <vafloyd@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 8:40 PM Subject: Re: [VAFLOYD] Not genealogy--more from Virginia > If anyone isn't tired of corn bread here is one more question. > Has anyone eaten Cracklin' Corn bread? > My Mother used to make it during hog killing time.
