Thank you for the congratulatory message, Ann. My daughter Docie (1974) and my son Ian (1977) were both born at Norfolk General, and both births were overseen by Dr. James D. VIA, who was originally from Fieldale, Henry CoVA, I believe he told me. He was in a practice with Drs. Mason ANDREWS and William LEHEW. Norfolk General is now the central hospital in Eastern Virginia Medical School complex. I'm sure you wouldn't recognize it, today. The world gets smaller and smaller... Have a wonderful weekend, Carolyn
Your story reminds me of when I was finishing my master's thesis and I found an article that I wanted to cite in my paper. The article was written by two nurses, one of whom was a VIA. I can't remember the other but both names are common in SWVA. I remarked to one of the members of my committee that the authors were from VA. She asked why I thought so, I told her that I recognized their last names. So we looked in the little box found with any scientific article that gives the background of the authors. Ha, both were working in Roanoke! I can't remember the name of the hospital but I know that any of ya'll could tell me in a second. My mentor read the small paragraph of info regarding the authors and snorted, "you and your genealogy, you work it into everything." I guess I kinda do. Hi Carolyn, Thanks for replying. My son was delivered by Dr. Andrews. He also got help for us when we had to rush the same son to Norfolk General ER. He fell through the glass of a sliding door when he and his friends were roughhousing at one of the boys houses. His arm was sliced open from wrist to elbow and he also had a big cut on his stomach, but not deep, thank goodness. We drove to the hospital in rush hour traffic and the ER was packed when we arrived. Dr. Andrews came down the hall, after we had been there a while, and my husband stopped him and when he saw the blood soaked towels he got us in immediately. Ken was 9 then. I don't think I would recognize anything anymore. We moved from Virginia Beach in 1969 and only went backin 1978, when my father-in-law passed away. Hope you have a nice weekend also.
