    3. Lewis-Gale was in Roanoke when I had my tonsils and adenoids removed in 1947. The new Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem was dedicated in 1972. I just found a website with the history of Lewis-Gale Hospital (it was tricky to find!): History of LGMC http://www.lewis-gale.com/CustomPage.asp?guidCustomContentID={F38BB138-523B- 4396-835A-97BF052B5F4B} If that doesn't work, go to: http://www.lewis-gale.com/ Then click on: "About Us" and in that menu, click on: "About Lewis-Gale" which will take you to: http://www.lewis-gale.com/CustomPage.asp?guidCustomContentID=6B27A156-BA2B-4 E74-ABF3-BC9CA49885D1 On that page (!) in the first paragraph (under "Our Mission"), click on the highlighted "100 years" - and that will take you to the history! There are a couple of old pictures of the hospital on that page. There was a Jefferson Hospital in Roanoke - I haven't been successful in finding any history about it, except for mention of the Jefferson Hospital School of Nursing which was founded in 1914. I'm not positive, but I think Jefferson Hospital became Roanoke Memorial Hospital, which today is Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Both of my brothers and my sister were born in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Also there was a Jefferson Hospital. Betty

    3. Jefferson Hospital was merged with Lewis-Gale Hospital in forming Roanoke Community Hospital, after which a new Lewis-Gale facility was built in Salem (?). Roanoke Memorial was the city's first, begun on its present site (then far from the city) by the Norfolk & Western Ry in the late 1890s for the benefit of its workforce. Carolyn
