Around 1936-37, my oldest brother started school somewhere along what is now Union School Road near Burks Fork Church of the Brethren. Does anyone know what school that would have been and if the building still stands? He and I believe it was converted into a dwelling house. Bernie Hylton

Hi Bernie, Other than Union School which is beside Burks Fork Church, the only school on that road is THOMPSON SCHOOL. I started school there in 1936. It was a one-room school and Lena Cannaday was our (super!) teacher. Naturally, she was an OLD woman. She is buried in Topeco Cemetery and she was 59 when she died. Really, really old, eh? I digress. I believe it might have been 1938 when most one roomed schools were closed and we were bused to Willis. Clovis Harman bought the building and converted it into a house. Alice Slusher lives there now. I can remember a few of those in the school back then, but not sure I remember your brother. I was Genevieve Cochran, as you know. Weren't Iva & Ruby West your cousins? They were there when I was.
