    3. OBIT - EPPERLEY, RAYMOND DONALD Roanoke Times, The (VA) - July 1, 1999 EPPERLEY, Raymond Donald, 69, of 278 Rocky Sink Road in Newport, died suddenly at his home Tuesday, June 29, 1999. Born in Newbern on March 3, 1930 he was a son of the late Thomas M. and Essie Mae Trail Epperley. Raymond was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and was a member of Sherry Memorial Christian Church at Newport. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in the Blacksburg office and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Surviving are his wife Christine Williams Epperley; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lisa Williams Epperley of Pembroke, Don and Lora Hunt Epperley of Newport; one daughter and son-in-law, Dreama and Steve Spiers of Richmond; six grandchildren, Matthew Spiers, Michelle Spiers, Megan Epperley, Hunter Epperley, Meredith Epperley and Andrew Epperley; three brothers, Edgar Epperley and Luther Epperley, both of Blacksburg, Kenneth Epperley of Kernersville, N.C.; one sister, Elizabeth E. Hedge of Norfolk. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 2, 1999 in the Kendall Funeral Home in Pembroke with the Rev. James Belcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Cemetery near the home in Newport. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Pembroke Little League Baseball in care of David Epperley at 219 Smith St. in Pembroke, Va. 24136. Essie Mae Epperley, age 89, died at her home Thursday night. A native of Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late James E. and Joanna Odell Trail. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Epperley; one daughter, Elizabeth E. Hedge, Norfolk; four sons, Raymond Epperley, Newport; Luther Epperley and Edgar Epperley , both of Blacksburg; Kenneth Epperley, Kernersville, N.C.; one brother, Claude Trail, Pulaski; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the Williams-Jamison-Kendall Funeral Chapel, Pembroke, with the Rev. Dewey O. Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memory Gardens, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 7:00 to 9:00.
