According to a few family trees I sampled on Ancestry, your grandfather was the son of a George Smith, born May 1830 in Floyd. His father was a Henry Smith, born circa 1794. I can't find anything back beyond that. If we're connected it's back further than my oldest known ancestor on the Smith line, Byrd Smith born 1809 in Franklin County.
