I am looking for information on the Pratt family in Floyd County. I am descended from Olive Pratt (b @ 1804, d 7 Aug 1853 in Carroll County, VA). She was married in Floyd County on 14 Dec 1841 to John McGrady. Any help would be appreciated! Peggy Light

Well hello, cousin Peggy Light, I'm a great-granddaughter of Jesse Pratt who was a brother to Olive. Their parents were James Pratt who died in War of 1812 -and I'd love to have more on his background - and Obedience Hylton or Helton. Sometimes called "Beedie". Their children were Joshua D.; John b abt 1807; Judith b about 1808 d 1862; Olive, and I have her b 1810 per marriage record; Jesse b 3 Aug 1812. Jesse is buried in Jesse Pratt Cemetery in the Burks Fork section of Floyd and his is the only stone with engravings, tho there are 27 buried there. We can almost assume Obedience, Joshua and wife Eve (Hilton), and Judith are buried there, as well as Jesse's first wife Barbara Simmons. I have a letter telling of two small girls, part of the Pratt family, who are buried there. I come from Jesse's second wife Mary Jane Pendleton Terry, who is buried in Topeco Cemetery. John and some of his family are buried in a cemetery on the Black Ridge. I'd be interested in more on Olive and her descendents. Genevieve C.
