    3. GREEN HILL ITEMS Misses Sulvia and Effie Cole are visiting relatives at this place. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Lucas and family and Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers were calling on Mr. W.I. Lucas Sunday. The patizing at Mr. Pleasant Cole's was largely attended Sunday morning. Mr. George Iddings is able to be out again. The meeting was largely attended by Haven's Chapel Sunday. Mr. Dossie Sowers expects to go to Huffville soon. Erma Conner was calling on Miss Sylvia Sisson Sunday. A BROWN EYED BOY (June 4,1925) =========== HEMLOCK ITEMS Miss Ella Hutchinson had a little sociable Thursday night. There were six boys and five girls present. All that were present seemed to enjoy the evening. Miss Bulah King spent a few days with her teacher. Miss Maud Sisson, last week. The Vest school will close April 7th. We are expecting several visitors. All the readers are invited to be with us. The United States Arsenic Mines has resumed work again after a shut down of about three years, with a force of thirtyfive or forty hands. We have resumed work own our St. Paul Methodist Epis- copal church, which is to be built on Flatrun, the basement being excavated and the carpentry work will soon be commenced. Visiting seems to be the order of the day. Miss Dana Whitenack is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Tiney Cole, of Troutvllle. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawrence and children, Mrs. Lula Sisson and little son and Miss Myrtle Lawrence of Salem, were visiting Mrs. John Lawrence Sunday. Mrs. Ira Lucas and children of W.Va. are spending a few days with parents and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.Q. Lucas of Terrys Pork. Those visiting Misses Birtie, Eva and Estelle Poage Sunday were Misses Dorothy and Nina Cole, Messrs. Fred and Elbert Sweeney, Ted Vest, Fred Aldridge, Willard Glower and Sam Jones of Roanoke. Miss Hester Cole of Roanoke is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.K. Cole at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Poff of W.Va. are visiting relatives of this place. Mrs. H.V. Cole, who has been in West Virginia, is home now. Mrs. Hobert McNeil and baby of Roanoke, have been visiting relatives and friends of this place. Mrs. Alice Thomas seemed to enjoy car riding Saturday afternoon. Well, as I only asked for a small space will ring off. Come on with your Simpsons News, as we are always glad to hear from you. SARAH JANE (September 11,1924) ============= MOUNTAIN ITEMS Misses Maye and Margie Vest entertained a few of their many friends Saturday night. Those present were Misses Hattie and Minnie Vest, Mannie and Rosa Conner, Lizzie, Nannie and Nellie Pugh, also Miss Brown. Messrs. Trigg Sisson, Letoher Whitenack, Brethard Vest, Jim and Tate Conner, Arch, Roscoe Link. Missie Grade and Daisy Whitlow, Clara, Dovie and Fannie Wood, Messrs. W.J. Salmons, Elmer Thomas, Phalos Moran, Daniel Whitlow, Sam Slusher and Zak McAlexander spent the third Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Salmons. As this Is my first letter I will quit for this time and if this is worthy I will come again. Miss Edith Stuart visited Miss Elsie Worrell Sunday. Aus Spangler took a flying trip to W.Va. the other week. Miss Iva Sisson and Miss Gladyus Troxell was visitng Mrs. C.H. Jewell Sunday. John Stewart and wife and son were visiting his brother Fred Stewart Sunday, also E.H. Sisson, wife and baby. TWO GOOD CHUMS (March 20, 1924) ============= ROUND AND ABOUT Mr. and Mrs. Jabe Hylton and Miss Anna Maye Via entertained a few of their friends Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. L.A. Weeks and children were visiting Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Akers Sunday. The Harmon school is progressing nicely with Miss Anna Maye Via as teacher. Albert Poff, Forest Light, Early Webb were visitng A.B. Underwood. Miss Nina Sisson and Ocie Underwood were visiting Sherman Argabright Tuesday. Harvie Conner was visiting Mr. Rom Holly Sunday night. A BLACK EYED PEA (June 9,1927) ============== SIMPSON DOTS Well, the glorious 4th of July has passed and we think Mr, E.J. Lucas, superintendent of the union Sunday school #2 has the honor of having the largest and best picnic we have ever had at this place. Mr. J.W. Hall and D.E. Lucas made good talks to the students. We are in need of a blacksmith shop at this place and would be glad if someone put up one here. Mr. J.H. Sisson, our former blacksmith, has gone into the goods business, which leaves us without one. GUESS WHO July 6,1902 ============== SIMPSONS LATEST Blake Reed, Teddy Craghead, Ramon Poff, Shirlie Muncie and Coy Conner were at Pilot Wednesday night for preaching, as there is a revlvial going on there. There was a large crowd at High Rock Sunday. Misses Etta Martin, Eugenia, Eva and Audrey Epperly, Claudene and Hazel Whitenack, Mrs. Alice Thomas and Clifford and Glenver Martin were calling on Mr. and Mrs. J. Tas Martin Monday evening. Misses Sylvia and Alda Sisson were shopping at Flint Wednesday. (June 9,1927) =============== HURRAH! FOR STONEWALL Harlie Blackwell was calling on Miss Wilma Richard Sunday evening. Miss Locie Vest and Ruby Sisson attended preaching at Stonewall Sunday. Mrs. J.A. Vest is on the sick list. Miss Kate Hoback visited Misses Virgie and Effie Lawrence Sunday. WOODIE'S DARLING (February 14,1918) ============== TERRY'S FORK NEWS Miss Erma Conner entertained a number of friends Thursday night. Those present were Misses Sylvia, Alda and Emma Sisson, Myrtle, Willie and Ada Lawrence and Eva Poage, Messrs. Coy and Elmer Conner, Darrel and Oliver Clower, Dossie Sowers, Roy and Carson Light, Alonzo, Dorris Oatley, Clifford and Glenver Martin. Everyone left at a late hour expressing themselves as having a good time and hoping to be entertained again by Miss Conner soon. CURLES (April 28,1927) ============== Muncy ============== SIMPSONS NEWS We had our first snow last night and from the old saying we will have nineteen more. Daniel Boone Vest who was operated on last week in Roanoke at the Shenandoah Hospital for adenoids and tonsils, we are glad to say is improving very nicely. We are also glad to say that Mrs. Kyle Muncy, who was operated on at Shenandoah Hospital and was seriously ill, is much improved and is able to be brought home. Our sympathy goes out to her on her return home as her daughter, Mrs. Will Austin, died while she was away and her homecoming will be such a sad one. Treasurer Sumpter was around collecting taxes and spent Tuesday night at Wm. M. Vests. Photographer D.L. Cole was making pictures at Double Springs School Wednesday. Mrs. Ratio Board, who has been sick some time, is much better. Archie Cole has been ill from cold. Mrs. N.E. McNeil and son Everett of Pilot were shopping at Flint Friday. Elder H.V. Cole attended the funeral of Mrs. Shortt at County Line Thursday. Sorry to hear about Mrs. Floyd Conner's death, but we have all got to go sooner or later. (December 11,1924) =============== CHEAP HILL ITEMS Audra, the little daughter of C.O. Carr is right sick with quinsy. Miss Oilie Craghead entertained quite a number of her friends Christmas. Some of those who she entertained were Misses Rebecca, Sallie and Dora Eanes, Odell and Alabama Wilson, Maude and Callie Craghead, Emmet Wilson, Curtis Whitemack, John, Maxie, Miss Bertha Board, Rispy Muncy and Alice McNeil. Mother Nature has on her coat of white.
