Dan, the parents of Byrd SMITH of Floyd CoVA, m. Lydia IDDINGS, were John SMITH and Rosanna BALF or BOLFE, who married in Franklin CoVA, m.b. dated 01 Jan 1807. Carolyn, That is the conventional wisdom. Aside from the Franklin County marriage bond record and Rosanna's death record, those two are a complete mystery, however. I've also seen her last name spelled "Rolf" or "Rolfe" or "Ralf" in a few sources. That teases of her being related to the John Rolfe-Pocahantas line that comes out of the early Jamestown settlers, but there's no direct evidence of that being her correct name. A few months ago, I requested the assistance of the Franklin County Historical Society in trying to find out anything about them. So far, I haven't heard anything back. There is one personal family tree on ancestry.com that suggests a completely different parentage for Byrd, Creed and their siblings. I emailed the owner, but I haven't heard anything back. I've read message board posts suggesting that there might be some native american influence in the family, since Byrd and Creed could be considered native american-sounding names. No real evidence exists of this, either. I would _*love*_ any direct evidence that anyone could share. -Dan Smith Carolyn Bruce wrote: > Dan, the parents of Byrd SMITH of Floyd CoVA, m.
