Tee Hee! Yes I did! When I finally met Mr. Peters, County Clerk, in person & introduce myself as that crazy woman from WI who was driving Paul & his staff nuts they all admitted they thought I had gone a bit overboard. But due to the Male Marriage Index that Paul copied & sent to me I had a real good start on my database. Then, late last fall Rena made me an offer I could not refuse. She had copied the actual documents off microfilm from the library of VA, copied these on to disk & offered copies to me if I had time to "transcribe" them. (I made time!!!) It's not a word for word transcription though. I put the information into data fields that can be sorted & assembled any way one wants. This is an example of one I just entered: Year Date_place_type Image His Last His Last Sort His First Her Last Her Last Sort Her First His Note Her Note His F_FCVA Her F_FCVA 1896 02-12-1896 at the bride's parents', Floyd Co., VA by Noah Reed. FCVA1896_00016. Akers Aker James M. Slusher Slusher Lena He 37 yo single w/m farmer, b. & living in Floyd Co., VA, s/o Preston & Elizabeth Akers. She 27 yo single w/f, b. & living in Floyd Co., VA, d/o F.M. & (blank) Slusher. No No This is why it is so easy for me to look up the record or the actual image. Also why it's so easy to share these same images by using the index number. Enough of this boring stuff but you can probably tell I do love databases!! Barb_R ....I have copies through June of 1974. Plenty more when you run out. Just ask.. I'm working on the 1770 Botetourt County marriages... I am so busy at the library, i don't have much time to do anything else. I have 1865 - 1903 already. I also have Caroline County Marriages (don't know the year right off ) & Culpeper Co wills (Don't remember the year) and 1838 - 1843 Montgomery County marriages. After all they are public record, that we're safe to share. If a person wants a certified copy then they still have to get it from the Floyd county Courthouse. Rena
The year we had the first Floyd Rootsweb picnic, I drove over early in order to do some research at the Floyd Courthouse. Inside, working with the marriage records, was a woman I'd never seen before. We began talking and eventually introduced ourselves and she was Barb Reininger from Wisconsin. It was such a delight to get to meet her as I'd already begun to think of her as "Wonder Woman" from all the great information she had already made available to us. Since then the site just gets better and better and has helped me many times to bridge a gap in my research. Thank you again Barb. I know all other counties are envious they don't have our resources.
