Hi, Genevieve, I haven't kept up with the situation of the D-Day Memorial, but I understand that one of their primary donors passed away not long ago, and their operating expenses are exceeding their income. Money, and quite a bit of it, is the only answer of course. I hear that the Memorial is trying to get the government to take over operations, which would make sense since it is a national memorial. In my opinion if the memorial had been built forty years ago, it would not be having money problems, but having waited until the "Greatest Generation" has all but left us, their visitor/contributor base has diminished to the point of no return. Also in my opinion, every schoolchild should visit there to understand what happened on D-Day. It's a very poignant place, with statues depicting the heroes of D-Day as if they were actually in the struggle to gain a foothold on the beach at Normandy while active water spurts simulate bullets hitting the shallows around them. I recommend a visit there to anyone who holds the men of the invasion in esteem for their sacrifice and courage. I have no connection to the D-Day Memorial.
