Joyce, Are you saying that Santa Maria Barbarcue is no longer available in the city of Santa Maria, CA? I have spent lots of time at the Vandenberg AFB. Use to go to Santa Maria on weekends just for the barbarcue. Is the Far Western restaurent still there? The one that looks like it was built over a hundred years ago and served the best steaks around the area. The last time I was in Solvang they had built a new one there but it did not have the "western atmosphere" as the original. The restaurent raised their own beef with the cattle grazing on the old toxic landfill. Jack Spangler Ellicott City, MD PS I remember a restaurant further north of Santa Maria that served a 48 ounce T-bone which was free if you could eat the complete meal within an hour. I remember one Air Force Major (later General) who could consistently get the free steak until the management recognized him and loaded his plate with lots of salad and other vegetables. Over the years I probably visited every good restaurent in Santa Maria, Lomoc, Solvang and the surrounding areas. ========== On May 30, 2010 at 1:25 AM Joyce & Tom <jthawkin@pacbell.net> wrote: > In every Mexican restaurant there are beans on the plate, there are lots of > food vendors but the town has banned them, so they sit on the edge of town > and you can get great tacos, beans & burritos. Jack, I live in northern CA, I have been to Santa Maria but that is far away from me. Solvang is not the same as it was years ago, fast food restaurants and dinky import shops now. The last time I was there, I was very disappointed. Changing times.
