4/23/1938 Bluefield Daily Telegraph s/o William Thomas McGhee & Elizabeth Conner Last rites for J. C. McGhee, 68-year-old, who passed away at his home 315 Bluefield avenue Thursday night, will be conducted at the Wayne Street Pentecostal Holiness church at 2:30 Saturday, by the former Pastor, Rev. Bane T. Underwood, assisted by Adjutant K. E. Moss of the local Salvation Army. Mr. McGhee, a native of Floyd county, Virginia, had lived in Bluefield for about 35 years. He had been in failing health for several years but his passing was a shock to his many friends. Mr. McGhee married March 9, 1892, to Miss Alice Richards also of Floyd county, who died December 16, 1936. To this union was born nine children, four having preceded him to the grave. Beside his five children he is survived by 5 brothers and one sister, H. W. McGhee of Bluefield, M. L. McGhee, Radford, Va., A. C. McGhee and J. W. McGhee, Saltville, Va., M. McGhee, Wilcoe, W. Va., Mrs. Ollie Burton, Bluefield. One brother, Ab McGhee preceded him to the grave. Active pallbearers: L. W. Perdue, E. F. Dillow, James Turpin, R. C. Caldwell, W. F. Grubb, Wiley Lovall. Friends of Mr. McGhee will act as flower bearers. Friends furnishing cars are requested to have them at the home of H. W. McGhee, 1322 Princeton avenue by 2:00 p.m.
