    1. [VAFLOYD] Jacob Smith
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: TysonSmith50 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.floyd/2008.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Who is Jacob Smith in the 1810 Census? Jacob Smith in the 1810 Cenus is 26-44 so he would have been born between 1766-1784 Jacob 1810 Census has 3 sons Under 10 Years old Jacob 1810 Census has 2 sons 10-15 Jacobs wife is 26-44 so she was born between 1784-1766 they have 3 daughters 1 duaghter Under 10 2 daughters 10-15 4 Children under 10 4 Children between 10-15 literally thinking there from youngest to oldest are maybe like this 15Son 1795 13Daughter 1797 early 12Daughter 1798 late 10Son 1800 8 Son 1802 5 Son 1805 3 Son 1807 1 Daughter 1809 if he had a child in 1795 as his oldest he is at least 18 years old. 1795-18= 1777 So this Jacob was most likely born between 1766 and 1777 There is a Jacob Smith who married a Mary Shockey in Montgomery in 1796 he was born between 1770-1773 he is in Wayne County 1850 Census and in Cabell County 1860 Census Lets find a Jacob Smith in some land records ... 1841 Jacob Smith in Floyd County on South Fork of Roanoke next to Shilling and Barttett 1809 Jacob Smith in BOTETOURT County on Cotawbo Creek and James River 1804 Jacob Smith MONTGOMERY COUNTY South Fork of Roanoke Next to Shilling, Webb, Lewis (There is Lewis and Shilling in 1810 Census same Page) 1802 Jacob Smith MONTGOMERY COUNTY South Side of Sinking Creek Nort Side of Gap Mountain next to William Pines and David Price (that should be hard to find) 1796 Jacob Smith MONTGOMERY COUNTY next to William Stapleton and John Picklesimer on the South fork of the Roanoke. (the 1785 Enumeration of Botetourt County has Jacob Smith living next door to William Stapelton) 1793 Jacob Smith has land in Montgomery County next to the Price Familys on Strouble Creek 1785 Jacob Smith MONTGOMERY COUNTY Stroubles Creek adjoining William Preston 1785 BOTETOURT ENUMERATION you really cant look at this and say this man and this man were neighbors but because they are all separated into different groups or Districts...you can say they are in the same district. 1785 Jacob Smith and William Stapleton live in James Barnetts district. 1785 Jacob Smith lives Next Door to Elijah Smith in Smiths district Elijah Smith Lived on the North Fork of Roanoke. William Stapleton had land under the same Warrant number as Jacob Smith in 1796 on the South Fork of the Roanoke. that will help us a little bit? maybe... If Jacob Smith was born in between 1770 would he have land and living with 7 people living in his household and with 1 house and 1 building? in 1785? he would only be 15 years old... what if he was born in 1766 the OLDEST He can possibly be is 1766 birth he would still only be 19 years old with 7 people in house think about it Him and his wife =2 that leaves 5 children by 19 years old it is doable but it just doesnt seem like the 1785 Jacob is the same as our Jacob. But It might be his father. as a matter of fact. Jacob Smith born 1773 might be the son of a Jacob Smith... This old Jacob Smith might be the father or the Brother of Old Peter Smith born at about 1750-1760 its not him. But he might be one of the 7 people living there under his household. other neighbors like John Shockey in the census and John King they are all on the South fork of Roanoke. the 1841 Land Record for Jacob Smith next to the Widow Shilling says they are next to Bartett Bartetts land is on the Mouth of Lick fork and Roanoke and crosses Flat Run and it starts on the Bank of the River it says the Roanoke River looking at this location on a Topographic Map it is called Goose Creek. Flat Run Runs right into or almost into Big Run Big Run is Where Peter Smith and Jabez Smith and Humphrey Smith all lived. I know this because Peter Junior lives next to Peter Sr in 1830 Peter Junior was born between 1800-1810 Peter Senior was born between 1750-1760 this would actually match up for a Peter Smith buying land on the Little River next to Humphrey Smith in 1780. So where does everyone get info for him being born in 1781? is it possible that Peter Jr living next door is actually a grandson of Peter Sr. born between 1750-1760??? I dont know... probably not though. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: TysonSmith50 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.floyd/2008.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The 1810 Census Montgomery County Shows these families living by each other Barttett Shilling King Jacob Smith younger than 45 Peter Smith Over 45 years Poff The Land Records Show us this 1794,1796,180? and 1808 Jacob Smith held Land Next to Widow Shilling and Lewis South Fork of the Roanoke 1783? 1808 1812? Peter Smith asignee of John King on the South Fork of the Roanoke on BIG RUN next to Lewis and arthur... A couple family trees say that Peter Smith died on Ocotber 11 1837 in Floyd County. But they also say he was born in 1781... If he was born in 1781 1810-1781=29 years old The Peter Smith in the 1810 Census is over 45 and his wife is too. Unless Peter Smith is one of the young men that is 16-25 and the birthday is off a little. if he was 25 in 1810 he would have had his son Jacob at 16 and he did. There is a different family tree that says Peter Smith got married in 1791... and this Peter is the father of Jacob Smith born 1801 that married Eva Shilling what we do know is 1850 Census Floyd County Jacob Smith born about 1801 Eva SHilling is wife neighbor is Alexander Smith other neighbors are Shillings and Barttetts in 1841 a Jacob Smith had land surveyed in Floyd County on the South Fork of the Roanoke next to the Widow Shilling and to Barttett crossing the Bent Road a couple times and Flat Run. Bartetts land is on the South Fork of Roanoke at Flat Run and Lick Fork. This is not the same Jacob in 1810 because he would have only been 9 years old BUT it seems to be the same land as Jacob Smith in 1810 or at least part of it. Flat Run and Big Run seem to almost meet each other and at this intersection is a place called Smith Chapel and the map says Simpson but the Adress is Copper Hill Virginia. All of this Area was at one Time Montgomery County when it was getting Land Records until 1831. and it was Botetourt in the 1785 Enumeration Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
