DAR shows John Nofsinger was married to Hannah Spangler. Jack Spangler In Ellicott City, MD where we have a very NICE day today after a frost Friday night took took care of this year's "mater" crop. Maybe someone in Franklin County, Virginia can help. Looking for proof of marriage of John Nofsinger to Mary Hannah or Mary Elizabeth Spangler. 1786 Tax Records for Franklin Co., VA show John Nofsinger (Nothsinger) with 1 Tithe, 1 White 0ver 16, 1 slave under 16, 3 Horses and 6 cattle. Mary Spangler, wife of Daniel Spangler Sr. in a deed of gift shows John Nofsinger (Naufsinger) as a "loving friend" in 1788. A deed dated 1808 shows John and his wife Mary Nofsinger. Mary Spangler's will of 1812 shows "my son-in-law John Nofsinger". Records in Muhlenburg, KY show John and his wife there in 1817 or before. It would appear that John was unmarried (or widdowed) in 1786 and married between 1788 and 1808. Any help will be greatly appreciated. NOTE: Daniel and Mary Spangler had three daughters named Mary - Mary Elizabeth, Mary Hannah and Mary. Mary's will of 1812 mentiones "my son-in-law Thomas Fouler and his wife Mary,.... my son Daniel, ... my son John ... and my son-in-law John Naufsinger (Nofsinger). Mary's son George who had died 1793 and a third daughter either Mary Hannah or Mary Elizabeth were not mentioned. From this I conclude that one of the daughters had died before 1812.

================== My the-spanglers.net email is not working and has not been working since Microsoft made that big security update to Windows XP operating system last week. In fact some other stuff don't work either. The dates for Sarah Bolt and Daniel match except for the marriage date - 6 month baby - but it could be correct. As far as I know the first Spanglers arrived in this part of southwest Virginia around 1773 when Daniel, Sr. purchased land in Botetourt/Bedford/ Franklin/Henry County. Daniel, Jr., his mother Mary, wife Sarah and children arrived in Botetourt/Montgomery/Floyd County in 1792 and purchased the Spangler Mill on Pine Creek as well as receiving land grants from James Monroe, Governor of Virginia. Daniel, Jr. was in Franklin/Henry Co., in 1782 when Daniel, Jr. was paid for providing diets and provisions to the Contential Army. ( Ref Virginia Magazine of History and Biography Vol X, Jan 1902 No. 3 page 239) The land stayed at the same place - only the name of the Counties changed! As far as I know and I have never seen any records that indicated a Rev Spangler was in the area. According to Semple's History of the Baptists in Virginia and Hassell's History of the Primitive Baptists, Pine Creek congregation was constituted in 1803. However, in Pigg River records there is a reference to a meeting at Pine Creek in March 1799. Early church records show the first members in 1795. We have a lot of Rev Spanglers in the area later but they are for the most part Dunkers/Brethern. However there were some primitive Baptist preachers at Pine Creek. I do not know of a Rev. Spangler being in or visiting the area in the 1782 time frame. However I have a "stray cat" by the name of William Spangler 1722- 1801 supposedly buried in the Pine Creek Cmetery. Barb R. shows him in her Pine Creek Records. I have visited the Pine Creek Cemetery many time but have never seen a stone for him. I have emailled Barb with some questions but she has not responded. I have never seen anything in any of my research in Floyd that makes reference to this William. It is possible that he may have been a preacher. Do you have anything on this William Spangler? Jack Spangler Ellicott City, MD PS I grew up 5 or 6 miles from the Pine Creek Church PPS The Spangler mill was still standing until a couple years ago when it finally collapsed. PPS1 The famous Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway was built by Edwin Mabry a Spangler descendent, as well as a number of other mills in Floyd County. The web site says Daniel and Sarah Bolt were married in Montgomery co., VA. The dates given seem to match. However, I have checked the marriage records at Christiansburg in Montgomery Co. and could not find a marriage record of Daniel and Sarah. I believe accuracy is very important and have found too many times that "information" appearing on the internet is not accurate. This is especially true of the LDS data base. For example the LDS data base shows my father was the son of his brother.   I have tons of data on my website at www.genealogy.the-spanglers.net of the descendants of Daniel and Mary Spangler. There are thousands of names here. My electronic copy of this genealogy is 451 pages of 10-point type which is over 203,000 words. I started my genealogy research long before the computer age and it is all type written using my own format. Here is an example: ==========  1. My Great Grandfather, from Floyd County, served in the 54th VA Infantry. I searched for years trying to find info on his and his brothers service with little luch. Then I tried the Virginia Tech library in Blacksburg, Va. It has about the most complete collection of Civil War material you could ever hope to search. It is located in the basement and its curiator is one of the most helpfiul I have found anywhere. He located what I was looking for in minutes and even made an appointment for me to come back ON HIS DAY OFF to copy the material he hasd found. Blacksburg is in Montgomery County next to Christiansburg and only a few miles from Floyd County. So make a detour you will find it worthwhile for anything on the CIVIL War. Books, Histories, Letters photos you name it and you will probably finjd it there. =\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\= Charlie says: GENEALOGY is the study of life in the Past Lane =\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\=\= > From: vafloyd-request@rootsweb.com > Subject: VAFLOYD Digest, Vol 5, Issue 222 > To: vafloyd@rootsweb.com > Date: Fri, 15 Oct 2010 01:01:39 -0600 > > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Dont know where i got it but last update noted on her file was from 1994 with a not married 3 Nov 1782 Montgomery co va by rev spangler? was there a rev spangler at the pine creek [primitive baptist church at that time? also do you have sarah's 10 bothers and sisters. What I am really trying to confirm is that Sarah Bolt was really the wife of Daniel Spangler, Jr. I know his wife's name was Sarah as verified by many records including her tombstone. Daniel Spanglerborn 1716 ca, died Nov. 3, 1787. It is said that he is buried in PIGG RIVER PRIMITIVE BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY located five miles south of Calloway, Va. on State Route 750 between State Routes 751 and 640. No marker is known to exist. The story posted on the internet that Daniel was a son of Jacob and Elizabeth Stophell is a myth based on Jacob's will: February the 5th Anno Domini 1756 Jacob Spengler of Allsace Township and County of Berks hath made his last Will and faith in the Presence of the subscribing Wittness, as followeth--That his only son George Christopher Spengler who helped ........ Thanks to all that replied to my query. What I am really trying to confirm is that Sarah Bolt was really the wife of Daniel Spangler, Jr. I know his wife's name was Sarah as verified by many records including her tombstone. Daniel Spanglerborn 1716 ca, died Nov. 3, 1787. Legend says Daniel was in failing health and died suddenly while serving on jury duty in Franklin County, Va.
