    1. [VAFLOYD] Not genealogy--the Virginia saga continues
    2. Kat Fulcher
    3. I know everyone is probably sick of hearing the tales of my migration to Virginia, so I promise this will be the end of the story..but the ending is so good, I just had to share it!! As you know, yesterday I came into my new house to find a fountain pouring forth from under the sink where a pipe had burst. I quickly called a plumber who talked me through the process of getting the water turned off and he promised he would come out today and fix my mess. He was better than his word, showing up bright and early and jumping right in to make the repairs. While we were talking, I noted that I was going to have to have help with rennovating my new house and he said that he had recently started working with a contractor who is new to the area, but who is really good and a very decent, Christian man. He gave the man a call and found out that he was indeed interested in looking at my house...and that he is almost my next door neighbor!!!! Seriously, he can just about walk to my house! He is just wonderful and the best part is that he will be able to keep an eye on our house for us when we are in Florida. He mentioned that his pastor is also a professional painter, so I will have yet another Christian man working in my house. This was certainly a "God thing." I picked my plumber out of the book because he had a Scripture verse noted in his yellow pages ad (Romans 10:9) and I hoped that this would mean he was a fair person (which he definitely IS! His bill today was remarkably low for all the work they did!!) The plumber, in turn, recommended the contractor because HE is a good man. The contractor is recommending the painter because HE is a Christian! Everything flowed right through the Word of God. The so-called "disaster" yesterday was really minor compared to what it could have been...and the result was to draw all the right people in for the job. I know I am blessed and will be able to sleep good tonight. Like I said, I will stop going on and on about my house stories...but this was too good not to pass on. hugs to all, Kat

    3. Kat, What a good idea it would be for you to take some before and after pictures. I don't have a website, but there are others that do and would love to post them so we could all see your new house evolve into your special home, inside and out. Just a thought. Today is going to be a beautiful day, a good day to take pics. Our big old farm house turns 100 years old this year. The old houses have so much character. I for one know the hard work that goes into getting it the way you want it. We know what can happen to a house that sets empty and this one set empty for 7 years before we bought it, so we allowed ourselves 10 years to get the house and the whole farm the way we wanted it. That was 35 years ago. I wish I had taken pictures, before and after. That made me tired just writing about it. I think I am ready to downsize now. Enjoy your new home and may God's blessings go with you in every room, especially the children's rooms. Cora Sue Linton Waynesboro, VA \o/The Lord Inhabits Praise

    3. Kat, My husband and I moved from IL to northeast TN in 2003. We had lived all our lives in the same area in IL and in the same house for 36 1/2 yrs. I think it took 10 yrs. off my life during that period of time moving!! We know how you feel because every time we turned around something was breaking or going wrong after moving in. We have found that here in northeast TN if you call someone to come to give you an estimate or to fix something they may come "sometime" or they just never show up!! We have also found that there are a lot of people out there that don't care how they do things. I guess we are to picky, but when you pay to have something done you would like to see a "neat" job done! It's been 4 yrs. now since we moved and I am still wore out and I am tired of "projects" to do. I am 65 and I find I don't have the "get-up-and-go" I did when I was younger!! Good luck on your cleaning up project. They say there is a light at the end of the tunnel (which I am still lookin' for!!) so hopefully next summer you can sit and enjoy your new place. I don't usually "write" much on this list, but I read it all the time and keep up with what everyone is talking about. I can still picture that place after you've lent your loving hands....I'd give my right arm for a homestead on a creek, in the woods. Fyi -- Sharon Hobart -----Original Message----- From: ohgallia-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ohgallia-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of cheryl enyart Sent: Wednesday, December 12, 2007 8:32 AM To: ohgallia@rootsweb.com; OHMEIGS@rootsweb.com Subject: [OHGALLIA] new records online from Virginia Since a lot of us have roots from the Shenandoah Valley area I thought I might post this information I recieved from another genealogy newsletter source. œThe Library of Virginia (LVA) is pleased to announce that digital imaging of the Shenandoah County chancery causes is now complete. The images have been added to the Library's on-line Chancery Records Index: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/whatwehave/local/chancery/index.htm and are now available for searching through the LVA website. The Shenandoah County chancery collection covers the years 1772 through 1927. Shenandoah County joins the growing list of localities whose chancery causes have been preserved and made available through the Library's innovative Circuit Court Records Preservation Program, which seeks to preserve the historic records of Virginia's Circuit Courts. Please see the Chancery Records Index for a listing of additional locality chancery collections that are available. So check out all this great info and Happy Hunting. 1. [VAFLOYD] not genealogy--at home in Virginia
    2. Kat Fulcher
    3. Well, y'all, here I am in the motherland...beautiful (freezing!) Virginia. I had forgotten how COLD it can get. The little creek in front of our new house has ice on the banks...brrrrr... Now that the euphoria of buying the house is starting to pass, the reality of the job ahead of me is jumping up to bite me in the posterior. The previous owners moved out and left us a MESS!! They left us a mound of trash that will take several trips to the dump and they didn't clean anything! You should SEE the inside of the stove, not to mention the fridge! Yuck! I would be embarassed to leave a house looking that bad. Anything they didn't feel like taking with them just got left. The people who came in and put in our new heaters must have thought it was already the dump because they left all THEIR mess, too! Before I can even start working on rennovation, I've got a major cleaning job ahead. Fortunately, my step daughter works on the cleaning crew at Virginia Tech, so she is a pro and will dig into the mess this weekend. My mother in law is on her way, too, and nobody can clean like a mother in law...ha! In the meantime, we have to keep looking at all that PINK paint the previous owner plastered the place with! Can't wait to start painting! Keep me in your prayers...and, Ole Paul, send over a jug quick! I need something to drown my sorrows with...he,he,he Mizz (overwhelmed) Kat
