Can anyone point me to a site with information on the Old Alta Mons Hospital that was in Christiansburg. Winnie
I'm looking for information on Lillie Duncan . She was born 12/14/1881 died 7/20/1936. Married 1903 to William Barton Smith. Per marriage licence her Parents were J.C. Duncan ad Ellie Hawley. Unable to find any information on them. Her family remembers her having a brother named Joshua William Duncan married to a Hallie E. I have found several census on Joshua - parents listed as William C. Duncan and Julia Duncan. In none of their censusis a Lillie. Since Lillie was born in 1881 that would eliminate her being in the 1880 census and there is no 1890. She was not married until 1903 but still does not show in the 1900 census as a part of this family. If anyone has any information, please let me know. Winnie

Howard, excellent suggestion. Since my husband passed away in July 2006, I have discovered I can repair many things. Your suggestion about a book on repairs is very good. I have an excellent book. Reader's Digest--Complete Do-it yourself Manual. I believe it came from a used book store. Many illustrations and great easy to understand instructions. It has 666 pages and I would say it covers every thing. Kat you can also use your computer. Go to ehow.com. Speaking of when it rains it pours, last year it poured on me. I had the car in the shop four times. the air conditioner went out and was replaced in the month of July (in FL) The water heater went and was replaced. the washer quit and was replaced. Also had to get a new set of tires. Also had to have a plumber. I found termites in an add-on my husband had attached to the lawn mower building. Had to get the house inspected in case they had gotten in. Thank the Lord, he didn't find any. I'm holding my breath because the fridge is making a strange noise. So, maybe things will get better some day. Hang in there Kat. We shall overcome. I have changed many locks and in my home over the years and I can assure you that it is a very simple process even though I am a man!! A good investment for you may be to get a homeowner's do-it-yourself book from a good bookstore. I think there is a Barnes and Noble in Christiansburg that would have a good selection of books. It will pay for itself many times over and you will find that you can make many types of repairs yourself from plumbing, electrical, etc. and increase your confidence level each time you complete a task. Good luck with your new home. Simple. See the brand already there and go to the hardware store and buy the identical thing. there are only 2 screws in a lock. they should ne located on the inside. take them out, and slide the lock out. with the door open. the Plunger or the actual lock will slide out and you can slide the new one in, then place the outside knob on first, then line the inside up and slide it in then screw that in (Not too tight) and place the key in the lock and turn it to be sure it will work before colseing the door. Once you see that everything is installed properly then tighten the screws up and come inside and lock the door. there are many types of locks but YALE is used the most. you can take your locks that are already there out and go to a locksmith, and have them re-keyed. I don't know what that will cost. Anyway, there are instructions in the new lock if you get confused.... never call a 'man' to do a womans job. Winnie I found this in 1890 Floyd Co. Census- Indian Valley Duncan, Crocket 32 Mary E. 29 Lillie A. 8 Beauford D. 6 Sarah E. 6 James H. 1 Winnie Minson <wminson@swva.net> wrote: I'm looking for information on Lillie Duncan . Thank's for the head's up Howard. I don't hate men, I just hate those who take advantage of us women because they think they're superior.. MISS KAT, If you need instrustions on repairs, just ask, some of us can probably come up with an answer. Even though this is Genealogy, our habitat has to be a part of that too. and one must be comfortable and at least secure. Rena
I'm gonna head right back up to VA next weekend and take my hubby and kids this time. My men folk will take care of me and, at this point, that is just fine. I'm wore plumb out and ready for someone else to do the liftin' for a while! On Jan 12, 2008 5:05 PM, Rena Worthen <doreatr@rbnet.com> wrote: > Thank's for the head's up Howard.
