    3. Erma Sowers passed away a few months ago and she has a daughter that is suppose to be doing some up dating of Erma's books. However the daughter lost her husband a few months ago and I'm not sure if and when she will have any future info. There are several GEDOMS on the web sites and so much of the information is not correct. It does give you some general information however. I am a great great great grandson of Littleberry and attended the dedication of the monument at his grave in 1939 at Head-of the River Church near Check VA. The Vest Coat-of Arms on the VEST web site was taken from a first cousin's book, Saunders Vest that was written some years ago on the Floyd Vest family who was my grandfather. Edgar L. It was a real treat, the food was extremely good, and if anyone out there gets a chance to eat there, please go. Their lunch prices are unbelievable. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: nelliemcguigan Surnames: Ayers, Ayres Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.virginia.counties.floyd/1945/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am hoping that some one on the list will have heard of a book written by William J. Ayers, " The Ayers family of Patrick County Virginia: and related families, Viz.,Lees, Martins, Sheltons, Tudors". I would like to purchase the book,if at all possible, as I do not think that it would be available through a library loan, since it is genealogy related. The information that I have implies that it was published in Floyd, VA 198?? Thanks for any ideas. Jain Ayers-McGuigan Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Anyone on the Floyd Co. list who would like to have this information, please contact me privately. It can get somewhat complicated and I don't feel comfortable posting it to everyone because all the children are "survivors." However, I do not mind sharing it with family researchers, privately, who wish to add it to their files. 3. Paul..... You are a little younger than I am. I remember some of the things about Appalachia, but not a lot. I remember the tipples, trains with coal cars filled with coal. I didn't get to go to town often. I saw my first Santa Claus there, I was so afraid of him. Ha. I saw the movie, Trail Of The Lonesome Pine and a few westerns. We used to go to BSG on the 4th of July. Everyone brought food for the day. Mama would buy ice crean and a case of soda pop to take. Some one delivered it to our door. The ice cream was in a wooden small barrel, it had ice or something around the ice cream so it wouldn't melt. They had all day singing. I don't remember a swimming hole there, there was a swinging bridge that we had a lot of fun on. I haven't seen the Wise Co history site, I'll look in to that. I also attended school at East Stone Gap Went by bus from Powell Valley. I know about where Radford is, but haven't been there. I now live in DeLand, Fl. It's 18 miles west of Daytona Beach. We have lived here since 1952 and love it. My husband and two of our friends went to the beach one night to see the full moon rise over the Atlantic. That was the most beautiful scene, I'll never forget it. 3. Paul, I was born at Twenty Town, I believe that was Linden. We later lived at Laura. I went to school there through the 6th grade. Our mailing address was Inman. We moved to Powell Valley about 1935 or 36. Our next move was to Norton. We were living there when my Daddy was killed in a coal mine in Big Four, West Virginia in 1938. That's the reason we were moving so much, Daddy had to work where he could find work. We then moved back to Powell Valley. Daddy and my Uncle had bought a farm near Greenville, TN and that's when we left Wise Co. about 1939 or 1940. When did you leave Wise County? I still miss the mountains and streams. I don't miss the very cold weather though. I didn't mean to write a book, guess I'm just reliving my childhood. 3. Paul....That song must have been on the hit list back then. Life was so simple and good back then. We had so much fun and didn't have to have all the toys like the kids do now. You said you were a good speller, I almost always made 100 on mine, but now I sometimes have trouble spelling words, I blame it on old age. Most likely just laziness.
