    3. Paul, Clay says, do you remember when there was a duck pin bowling alley in West End maybe over the old theater or Daniel's variety store (he can't remember which.) When Clay was a kid, he says they used to go to the store at Clover Creamery and get ice cream on the way home from school. I have an old Clover Creamery bottle my mother in law gave me! 3. Paul: To Billy Jean's grave - go up the hill and turn left into the top of the hill entrance (not the Ingles entrance). Turn left again at the first drive. It parallels the street. Probably less than half way down, stop, get out of the car. Looking to the right and somewhat toward the Ingles monument is her grave. It is fairly close to the drive as I remember. The name on the stone is Billie Jean Morris Turpin. In that same general vicinity is the Wurzburger family, as well as the Joe Howell family - he's the one who killed his family and himself in 1954. 3. Paul: We visited Billy Jean Turpin's grave last year. She's really close to the Wurzburger's graves. That's the place I was talking about for Gentry. He would hide at that road at the foot of the hill. I don't know how many times he nailed my step-dad there - always had to get a run for the hill. Maybe I've got my hills mixed up? 3. If you'll bear with me for one more story, I'll shut up. My step-father (Bill Bain) was the most easy-going and non-violent person you would ever want to meet. He had one problem - he was extremely ticklish (goosy), and if you goosed him, hit would take a swing at whatever was in front of him. Bill worked for the City of Radford for a bunch of years. One day he was talking to the Chief of Police (don't remember which one) and somebody slipped up behind Bill and goosed him in the ribs. Bill swung at the Chief and got in a good him good. The poor Chief nearly went down, but he was ok. Of course Bill was full of remorse. The Chief forgave him, and as far as I know, nobody ever goosed Bill again. Oh yeah - one more thing about Gentry. He was on the Radford Police force for a number of years and moved away for some reason. Later he wanted to come back, but there was no openings. He told the City Manager that if he would hire him, he would arrest enough people to pay his salary and then some. He was hired and he kept his word.
