My sister-in-law and her husband live in North Pole, Alaska. They loved it and now thinking about moving back u[ there. Helen (my sister-in-law) did a lot of art work when there . When they had the BIG earth quake, she went and dug up the clay that the quake was pushing up, she made pottery things out of this clay, when fired it turned into beautiful colors. I have a few of the things that she made and sold there. Herhusband Don, retired from the telephone company a few years agp and that is why they moved. They raised their two sons there and have wonderful memories of living there. On Sunday morning when I woke up, i checked my mail, and read the newspaper, all the things I usually do, Then I went to the library to look at some marriage film that I had borrowed from Richmond. Everything went well I finished 1909, 1910, 1911 and started on 1912. By this time I was tired so I came home to a dark cold house. The wind had been realy bad all day, and since I live in an old house-trailer, I felt safer in a bigger building anyway. Sometime about 12-1 today they finally got my electric back on. Mom called me at work to let me know. I thought OH! great all's good, then I couldn't remember if I had left the water faucet outside on when I drained the system out, so out the door I ran to come home and check on everything. The water was ok, and when I got out of the car the furnace was running, what a welcome sound, HEAT finally once again. Anyway I hope the weather stays favourable, and the rain we're having puts out the fires that are burning on the mountains around us. The smoke is terrible, the visibility is poor and the air quality is also poor. I haven't rested well in the past 3 nights, so no web work will get done tonight. I have some nice additions to add, but they will have to wait. Thank you for beeing good in my absence. Rena

Everything went well I finished 1909, 1910, 1911 and started on 1912. By this time I was tired so I came home to a dark cold house. The wind had been realy bad all day, and since I live in an old house-trailer, I felt safer in a bigger building anyway. Sometime about 12-1 today they finally got my electric back on. Mom called me at work to let me know. I thought OH! great all's good, then I couldn't remember if I had left the water faucet outside on when I drained the system out, so out the door I ran to come home and check on everything. The water was ok, and when I got out of the car the furnace was running, what a welcome sound, HEAT finally once again. Anyway I hope the weather stays favourable, and the rain we're having puts out the fires that are burning on the mountains around us. The smoke is terrible, the visibility is poor and the air quality is also poor. I haven't rested well in the past 3 nights, so no web work will get done tonight. I've been through some doozies in CA and Alaska. I grew up almost due east of you girls in Stockton then. When my dad moved us out of L.A. (Venice Beach and small earthquakes and tidal waves were my first experiences there) we lived in the Bishop/Mammoth Lakes area near the east side of Yosemite. In the 80's we had some very strong earthquakes that scientists say weren't related to Mt St Helens, but I don't think they have convinced the locals of that. Everytime St Helens decided to tremor our little dormant Mammoth Mt would shake her bootie. The Mt is on the San Andreas Fault Line. Then she scared away all the City of Angels skiers (boo hoo) with opening little steam vents of her own. Of course the locals have always known of all the 'hot creeks' and natural 'hot tubs' but we weren't going to tell the tourists! When I lived in Alaska it was normal procedure to have everyone's boots lined up at the door and a rack for the coats right above...and this wasn't just gor the cold weather! Right inside the coast closet was everyone's own 72 hour pack filled with custom emergency goodies. Outside was safer in Alaska because there wasn't the danger of falling power poles and buildings. We always lived out away from everyone else and the way the ground shakes there your house is more liable to falling down on you no matter what it is made of. I have a cousin that moved to Navarre back in the early to mid 90's . The hurricanes are his fault. They did not have that many for many years. Since he moved there, I have lost count of the Hurricanes that have it that area. I think he has been OUT of his flooded house more than he has been IN it. Small story for you: We lived in Ft. Walton Beach 30 years ago. We came home and had a yard full of water. We pulled the man cover and water went down like a drain in a tub. We get ready to move to NC, and husband has to pick the house out without me. All I said was Get me a house on a hill. And he did. We moved again. Not far away and I am about half a mile from a lake (at the moment empty, dam broke back in 2003.) But we are about 25 ft above Lakelevel when it is there. Yeh, I'll take my chances with the earthquakes. I've been through some doozies in CA and Alaska. I grew up almost due east of you girls in Stockton then. When my dad moved us out of L.A. (Venice Beach and small earthquakes and tidal waves were my first experiences there) we lived in the Bishop/Mammoth Lakes area near the east side of Yosemite. In the 80's we had some very strong earthquakes that scientists say weren't related to Mt St Helens, but I don't think they have convinced the locals of that. Everytime St Helens decided to tremor our little dormant Mammoth Mt would shake her bootie. The Mt is on the San Andreas Fault Line. Then she scared away all the City of Angels skiers (boo hoo) with opening little steam vents of her own. Of course the locals have always known of all the 'hot creeks' and natural 'hot tubs' but we weren't going to tell the tourists! When I lived in Alaska it was normal procedure to have everyone's boots lined up at the door and a rack for the coats right above...and this wasn't just gor the cold weather! Right inside the coast closet was everyone's own 72 hour pack filled with custom emergency goodies. Outside was safer in Alaska because there wasn't the danger of falling power poles and buildings. We always lived out away from everyone else and the way the ground shakes there your house is more liable to falling down on you no matter what it is made of.
