The manuscript records of the New River Primitive Baptist Association (organized in the 1790's) contain a list of obituaries of quite a number of the ministers. I don't have the list with me at the moment, and am having to work long hours right now, but if it would be helpful, I would be glad to make copies of this index or of the obituaries and send them to someone who might have time to type them onto this county forum. I don't know whether they contain enough family information to be of help. Robert _____________________________________________________________ Get health insurance quotes from top companies. Bonnie, there is little on Thompson in Dr. Woods book, " Floyd County, A History of it's People and Places." Nothing which would explain who James Thompson's or Sallie Renfro's parents were. I do not see either mentioned in the index. Page 15 mentions Sally Barnard d/o Isham married James Thompson, no date. On same Page it states Elizabeth Thompson, d/o Nathaniel Thompson of Carroll County, married James Barnard On page 347, a short paragraph about Rev. Nathaniel Thompson; "Elder Nathaniel Thompson served his day and generation in the fervency and zeal which characterizes one as a true servant of God." I do not know if any Thompson researchers have discovered who the parents were, or where they came from and many have been researching long before I started. The marker in the cemetery states. "Born North or South Carolina." I do not remember seeing your request on the Floyd list, though we have "talked" previously. I am sure no one would intentionally ignore you. Regards, Mary Anne I have been trying for over a year to find out something about James Thompson and wife Sallie Renfro. I have been on the lookup section about the History of Floyd County. It people and places numerous times and no one will answer. There are pages in this book that mention James Thompson and his wife but I cannot buy the book and no one will answer my email. All of your links must be borken because no one answers. James Thompson was my GGGGGrandfather and I would like to know about him. I cannot find out who his parent were or who Salliie Renfros parents were. Can someone please help me find out about my ancestors. Carroll Co. or Montgomery Co. have not been any more helpful either. Jack, Thank you soooo much. This has been the most fun reading!!! I have enjoyed all the news for everyone's families because there are all of those little tidbits of happenings......illness in the communities, weddings, boys going off to war, tragedies that affected all neighbors and how they came together in happy times and sad. Plus I am related to many more than just the 3 families that I requested. Don't you just feel so much more connected to those great grandparents? I just loved it!!!!! Very gratefully yours, Jeanne P.S. What was the publication? And did you find it online? I've been pondering weather I want to join the 'NewspaperArchive.com', or 'World Vital Records', or if they are worth a membership. Specifically for searching old newspapers. David Peter Reed, b1872 d 1903, was the son of Peter A Reed, b1850 d 1907 and Susan C Simmons, b 1853 d 1928, m to Savinda Susan Akers, b 1874 d 1947. Children were Carl Stover b 1895 d 1959, m Clara Sumner b 1896 d 1985 and Charlie G Reed, b 1898 d 1965, m Ora Dove Lester, b 1907 d 1988. I won't add any of their children as most of us are still living. (I am Charlie & Ora's daughter) Savinda later m a Zentmeyer and they had a daughter who is still living. If anyone has Margaret Tise's book, her entries have a lot of mistakes, with several of the names wrong. We have almost finished cleaning up the Charlie Reed Cemetery and I finished taking pictures of the markers yesterday and will get them hopefully to Rena in a couple of days.
