Jack, In your file of old newspaper articles from the early 1900s, can you search for words instead of surnames? Could you try searching for: Shot, shooting, killed, murder, murdered The old news articles probably have information about both the criminal offenders and their victims. Simpson RICHARDS was my 2great-grandfather, though he was undoubtedly beamed down from a UFO. Born about 1804, probably in Franklin CoVA, he married there on 01 Nov 1832, Nancy VEST, dau of Littleberry and his first wife, "Polly" (Mary?) MOORE. Any information or a suggested search direction on him would be much appreciated. Simpson and Nancy had children: Sarah "Sallie", (abt. 1833); Mary Jane (abt. 1834); Rachel Anglin (my great-grandmother, born 09 Oct 1836); Anderson "Buck" (abt. 1838); Samuel R. Carol, When I was reading the "Floyd County Current Events" from Jack Spangler, (that I thoroughly enjoyed) I came across this item. I do not know where the community of EGO was located. From the names mentioned I would guess Indian Valley or Copper Valley area. Perhaps someone will have a listing of the old communitys and can tell us where EGO was. Good Luck. Muriel =============== EGO ITEMS Quite a large crowd attended Sunday School at Bishop Chapel Sunday afternoon. We are glad to see Mr. Letoher Akers in our midst again. Dan, A few years ago I looked up several convictions for murders or lesser crimes. On the ones I was researching I found only one case in which the victim's name was mentioned. The Chancery books give some bare facts but transcripts of trials would be needed for full details. I was told that these very old records were destroyed many years ago when the storage space ran out. For the murder and manslaughter convictions on this list, does anyone know of a source that would list the victims? Family lore says that my great-great grandfather Everette Agee was shot and killed by a jealous husband, but I've never seen any proof. -Dan On Apr 3, 2008, at 8:16 PM, Rena Worthen wrote: > http://www.newrivernotes.com/va/floydcri.htm > > Please refer to the (c) when using items from this list. > > Rena >
Hi Jack, Can you check for SISSON and MUNCY? I think my granduncle Walter Raleigh MUNCY will be on the list. I had found a notation of him being convicted of breaking into a storehouse about 1878 in FCVA. He was listed on census in 1880 with Elijah MUNCY family as prisoner. I don't know if he was incarcerated and his parents included him at home. Did they have house arrest in those days? Thanks, Jimmy M. I just went to this site and I question some of the validity of it. I am getting pictures ready to send to Rena for the website of the Charlie Reed Cemetery. I checked out the Reeds listed on the website and a lot of the dates are different from the dates on the tombstones. I haven't looked at the Lesters yet. I am wondering if we got a petition going he would consider it. So far I have not found any errors in his books and to think he wrote these books before inter net access, I am very impressed. I adore Elza and his books are a treasure. I am not internet savy enough to set up one of those sites where we can add our names to a petition. Can anyone here do that and then we all could sign it and send it to him. I have heard begging never hurts. carol jones stryhal **************Planning your summer road trip?
