    3. Googled "First Taxicabs" and came up with several articles. NY Times, May 9, 1915 "the 1st taxis were introduced in this country about 9 years ago from Paris and London. NY Times, 1910 talks of 1st taxis in NYC on May 31, 1909. Misc. articles talked of 1st taxis in NYC being battery powered in 1899. First woman cab driver in NYC was in 1925. Thanks, Jimmy M. By the end of the year Ford had sold his first car, which he called a Quadracycle, for $200 and used the money to build another one. With the financial backing of the Mayor of Detroit, William C. Maybury and other wealthy Detroiters, Ford formed the Detroit Automobile Company in 1899. A few prototypes were built but no production cars were ever made by this company. It was dissolved in January 1901.
