Kat: I love the way you wrote this. I am so very glad the day turned beautiful for this very meaningful occasion. And I know that Clay and God were there with you and the boys. Love to all, Allison --- On Sat, 5/9/09, Kat Fulcher <[email protected]> wrote: From: Kat Fulcher <[email protected]> Subject: [VAFLOYD] not genealogy--a beautiful day in Gunton Park, VA To: "vafloyd" <VA[email protected]> Date: Saturday, May 9, 2009, 5:43 PM Today was the day we said our final "See you later" to my husband, Clay and it was spectacular. For those who know the area, the family farm is up in Gunton Park, which a little bitty community way out in the country up and over from Max Meadows (east of Wytheville.) We thought the rain was going to ruin things, but just in time, the clouds flew off and the sun came out and it was so gorgeous. Everything up there is green and growing and flowers are everywhere. Somebody brought some of the prettiest pink dogwood blossoms you have ever seen. The grass in some of the fields was knee high and, with the breeze blowing, it moved and billowed like waves on the ocean. Everybody just came to the cemetery in their blue jeans and we had music and some stories and scattered Clay's ashes back up in his mountains that he loved so much. Clay's best friend from childhood who is a pastor now brought his guitar and, at the end of our service up there, played a peppy, rousing hymn that we could all smile to and clap along with. Then, we all headed back to the family farm house, broke out tons of good country cookin' and just ate and laughed and shared. There is nothing quite like a good family potluck dinner where everyone brings out their BEST recipes. If anyone went home hungry, it was their own fault! We all ate until we nearly popped...but we know that is exactly what Clay would have been doing if he'd been there. He was always first to the buffet table! I know everybody has to remember their loved ones in whatever way works for them, but I am so glad that today was our day to truly celebrate Clay's "old" life and find joy in his "new" life at Home with the Lord. It was so good. We all miss him, but know this was just a time to say, "We'll see you soon!" and not goodbye!!
Is there going to be a VAFLOYD-L picnic this summer? Glenn
This was very touching, congratulations on celebrating the day as Clay would have wished. It was a beautiful event.
