Thank you, Rena and Mary, for all the information. Rena, thank you for the websites and the copy of the marriage record. It's for a different Herman Peters. Herman Turner Peters was the son of Charles Arthur Peters and Arizona Turner Peters. Herman E. Peters was the son of George Jackson Peters and Allie L. Janney. Thank you for the marriage record, it fills in some blanks I had for Herman E. Peters. I don't know when Herman Turner Peters married Edith Lucille Vest. I only have birth dates for two of the five daughters: Judith Darlene Peters, b. 31 Jan 1941 - d. 12 Feb 1947 Catherine Sue Peters, b. 19 June 1942 - d. 12 Feb 1947 Mary requested a copy of Herman's obituary, and I have the same one that Rena posted: Herman T. Peters passed away at a hospital in Stockton, California on Thursday, February 24, 2005. He was 88 years old. He was born on January 27, 1917 in Virginia. He worked as a tunnel worker for 40 years and lived in Stockton for 25 years. In his free time, he loved watching NASCAR Racing, making windmills and loved being around and helping people and was very dedicated to his church. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary J. Peters of Stockton; his loving children, Diana Harper of Redding, Merry Moore of Rancho Cucamonga, Debbie Catechi of Red-ding, Mac Garner and Patricia Dummer and 2 sisters, Ocie Rakes and Peggy Harris, both of Floyd, Virginia. Herman adored his grandchildren, Ted Garner, John Cadigan, Elizabeth Cadigan, David Garner, Sandy Ramirez, David Dummer, John and Elizabeth Cadigan, Kyle and Ryan Harper, Joey and Jessica Sandercoch, Tina and David Garner and great-grandchildren, Monica, Nazarith and Ziahia Garner, Skylar Dummer and Shandi Anderson. Herman is also survived by his dogs that he loved, Mitcy, Bronco Elway and Buddy. There will be a funeral service on March 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. The service will take place at the Big Valley Bible Church, 226 Poplar St., Lodi, California, followed by a committal service at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, March 1, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. The visitation will be at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi. I'm just reviewing some PETERS family information: Herman Turner PETERS, b. 27 Jan 1917 Floyd Co VA - d. 24 Feb 2005 Stockton, California His first wife was Edith Lucille VEST: 1. When and where was she born? Who were her parents? 2. When and where were Edith & Herman married? 3. When did Edith die? 4. Where is Edith Lucille VEST PETERS buried? 5. They had 5 children: Diana, Mary, Debra, Catherine Sue, and Judith Darlene 6. In my notes, I have: Catherine Sue PETERS and her sister, Judith Darlene PETERS, died on 12 Feb 1947 in Floyd County, as the result of an automobile/train accident. These two girls are buried in Head of the River Cemetery. 7. Did their mother, Edith, also die in that accident? 8. Did anyone else die in that accident? Herman's 2nd wife was Mary J. (last name unknown), according to Herman's obituary. 1. Who were her parents? 2. When and where were Herman Turner PETERS and Mary J. married? Sorry for so many questions! Any help appreciated. Thanks, Paula Paula Kelley Ward San Antonio, Texas <mailto:[email protected]> [email protected] We do not inherit the land from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children - Native American Proverb

While I do not have any documentation (yet) for Sarah's marriage to Daniel Spangler, I can verify the info that Genevieve shared is correct and Robert Sr. and Elizabeth did have another daughter, Mary, along with Sarah. Here is a link to the Bolt bible record: http://www.boltancestry.com/aboltbible.htm I descend from the Robert Jr. line which is one of the lines that migrated to Ninety-Six District (present Laurens County) S.C. Jack, I don't know if this is a help.... I looked in my Bolt files and find Robert Bolt, Sr. and wife, Elizabeth, had a second child, John, born 6 June 1750. They are shown in Northern Neck, Fauquier Co., VA Deed Book 1, page 389. Other mention is made of Bolt males and both John and Robert are in Henry County 1780 and 1782. John's father and some other brothers migrated to Ninety-Six District, SC. No mention of John having a sister, or sisters, but a possibility? (John is later shown in Wythe [Grayson & Carroll]. He married 2nd in Patrick Co., and is buried in Floyd County, near the Carroll line. It's from this marriage that I descend.) Perhaps this might be a bit of a lead? I know you guys will be having lots of fun, and I'll be thinking of you all day. Just another reminder.....you can't take TOO many pictures!!!!!! Your friend and cousin, Jeanne

Jack, I cannot help you just now, but shall suggest Carroll County might be a likely spot for their marriage (or whatever Carroll County might have been that year). The Bolts lived in that area of Floyd, Carroll & Patrick, and I've found them an elusive bunch. My Bolt ancestor who married Slaughter disappeared in 1847 and I cannot find her anywhere after that date. More at a later time, I hope. For about 40 years I have been looking for the last name of Daniel Spangler’s wife Sarah. Daniel, Jr. was born 1747, died 16 Feb 1823 buried Pine Creek Cemetery. Sarah born 1753, died 8 May 1839 buried Pine Creek Cemetery. I recently saw on Rootsweb that Sarah’s last name was Bolt and born 3 May 1753 and married Daniel Spangler 3 Nov 1782 in Montgomery County, VA. I searched the record indicies in the clerk’s office in Christiansburg (and in Floyd) but could find no record of the marriage. I have tried to contact the guy who posted the info on Rootsweb but to no avail. Maybe the record is in some other County. If anyone should come across a record of this marriage I certainly would appreciate hearing from you. -- Jack Spangler Ellicott City, MD
Kat I promise that I will look through Barbaras things and see if she has the book she put together for it. I will at least try. I also do Heritage Scrapbooks so maybe if people could send me pictures of ancestors from Floyd I could do a book and we could donate it to the Library in Floyd or I could do several pages and put together books for people that want them. I do a pretty good job although I am not bragging and have done numerous books for Barbara so just let me know and people can start sending pictures now to me so that I can get a good book made. I promise everybody that I will work on a full fledged picnic next year! I had definitely planned to do that this summer, but with my husband's illness, I couldn't get it done this time, but I will jump right on it for next summer!! The past BIG get togethers we've had were just wonderful. Sometime in late Fall, I'll ask everybody for suggested dates and we will have something firm nailed down by the first of the year so everyone will have plenty of time to arrange their schedules. In the mean time, I can't wait for next Saturday! It's going to be fun! Kat On Mon, May 18, 2009 at 4:24 PM, Just Memaw <[email protected]> wrote: > ALICE, > That's reason to have ANOTHER one.....
