> Would this be Adney Gap instead of Audney? Yes, although you can't tell that by looking at the actual church; it appears to have been recently abandoned and has no identifying sign on it. Many of the graves are NICHOLS, probably all descendants of Ezekiel NICHOLS who owned several hundred acres in the Blackwater River valley, along present-day Route 602, from around 1880 until 1904-15 when he distributed his land among his grown children. Hi List friends - Glad to see the picnic was a success. I figured out who Lelia Peters was - sorta. Long time ago (1930s) she was doing genealogy on the Hodges family. So her maiden name was probably Hodges. She sent my Aunt Gertrude Hodges some replies to letters she sent out. The replies were addressed to Mrs. Lelia Peters. But she didn't include the envelopes so I don't know where she was living or who her husband was. They were from all over the VA and NC area. I remember when I used to send out letters and went cross-eyed reading the micro-fiche rolls. Hasn't our life become easier with computers and Rootsweb? Not to mention Rena and countless others. Thanks for considering my query. I sent same to the Hodges List and got nothing. Floyd is the best! This Lelia is close to the time frame I'm thinking about. I just can't put her in the family in the right place. Again I wish I had the software to help me. If I'm going to do genealogy, and I've been at it for over forty years and three computers ago, I really should think about buying the right stuff to help me sort it all out on something besides paper. Ya think? Used to be that I could turn around and ask my mother and she'd know, but she's been gone almost six years now. I still can't get used to not having her brain to pick, among other things. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I'm thinking I'm going to look in my Henry Co. file. Does anyone have information on King Hylton b: abt 1859? He married Sarah (Sallie) Bartley b: abt 1862. Who was his parent? Thanks, Dale
Thank you, Ken, for the GREAT pictures. I also loved the one of your granddaughter Johanna in the graveyard. It says how I feel about Memorial Day.
