    1. Re: [VAFLOYD] MUNCY Family
    2. Hi Opaldeen, I live in Columbia, TN which is about 40 miles south of Nashville. Been in TN the better part of the last 27 years. I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. My grandfather was Lindsay Elmer SISSON, 1877 FCVA; d: 1947 Akron, OH. He was son of David Sloan SISSON, b: 1833 Botetourt, VA; died 1915 FCVA. David was son of Ludlow Branham SISSON b: 1797 Rockbridge Co., VA; d: 1886 Locust Grove, FCVA. So I have Floyd roots on both sides of my father's family, though my father, Albert D. SISSON was born in Roanoke. Sorry to say that I haven't been in Floyd since I was a young child. Hope to change that sometime soon. Another MUNCY post mentioned the "MUNCY book". I have only seen excerpts and have a few copies of pages and it makes the family clear as mud. Too many Francis, Nathaniel, Samuel, Luke and other repeating names. Thanks too all on this list for their help and chit-chat. Jimmy M. Sisson **************An Excellent Credit Score is 750. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! 3. Jimmy, the Conner connection comes through Lucy Byer Muncy 1879 - 1959 to her mother, Terena D. Conner (Muncy) 1856 - 1930; to her grandfather, Daniel Peter Conner 1828 - 1912; to her great grandfather, William P. Conner 1768 - 1853; GG Grandfather, Daniel I. 2. Hi Joyce, None of these MUNCY/MUNSEYs fit. Who was Francis Asbury MUNSEY's parents or Gr-parents. I am determined to find a match. The name Francis is somewhat of a clue, as the original MUNCY who settled on Long Island, NY in the 1600's was Francis. Supposedly all the older MUNCY/MUNSEY families descended from Francis I. 3. Hi, Genevieve, I haven't kept up with the situation of the D-Day Memorial, but I understand that one of their primary donors passed away not long ago, and their operating expenses are exceeding their income. Money, and quite a bit of it, is the only answer of course. I hear that the Memorial is trying to get the government to take over operations, which would make sense since it is a national memorial. In my opinion if the memorial had been built forty years ago, it would not be having money problems, but having waited until the "Greatest Generation" has all but left us, their visitor/contributor base has diminished to the point of no return. Also in my opinion, every schoolchild should visit there to understand what happened on D-Day. It's a very poignant place, with statues depicting the heroes of D-Day as if they were actually in the struggle to gain a foothold on the beach at Normandy while active water spurts simulate bullets hitting the shallows around them. I recommend a visit there to anyone who holds the men of the invasion in esteem for their sacrifice and courage. I have no connection to the D-Day Memorial. 3. The Muncy/Munsey's are difficult I hope you get it figured out. I have a Jermiah Munsey b.Montgomery Co. Va married 1814,(no name of wife) d. Lee Co Va 1833. I think this could be the father of Francis Asbury Munsey. Parents of Jermiah John Munsey b abt 1764 Augusta Co VA ..D 1857 Lee Co Va Wife. Naomi "Mourning" Muncy b. abt 1768 Augusta co Va. D. 1855 Lee Co. Va Skidmore Munsey B. 1731 Kent Co Delaware m. Mary Scott (birth & death unknown) A major problem in this family is the same name used generation after generation. My Grandfather's given name was Francis, he was called John. He named his first child, a daughter, Francis. She was called "Betty" LOL -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Saturday, May 30, 2009 7:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [VAFLOYD] MUNCY Family Hi Joyce, None of these MUNCY/MUNSEYs fit. 2. Hi, Joyce, I don't have John Asbury MUNCY on my tree, but I think there was a connection between the Lee Co. MUNCY/MUNSEY families and the Montgomery Co. MUNCY families. I think that at least one of the sons of LUKE MUNCY, b: abt 1763; d: 1831 MCVA moved to Lee Co. and then moved on to Arkansas. Do you know gr-parents and gr-gr-parents of John Asbury MUNCY? I would like to tie him in as a cousin. To Donald CONNER: I have VEST connections through Lucy Byer MUNCY ( my 1st cousin 2XR) who married Robert Lee VEST on 06 Jan 1904 in Floyd Co., VA. Their 10 children are my 2nd Cousins 1XR. My grandmother, Callie Alma (MUNCY) SISSON was a FCVA MUNCY and I can remember her talking about VEST, LIGHT, LINK, WILSON, and some CONNER family connections. Thanks, Jimmy M. 2. Carolyn Bruce
    3. Hi, Paul. I heard on TV that the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford is about to close for lack of funds as the 65th anniversary of that event approaches. How sad, especially for the town of Bedford, which had so many sons lost at Normandy. June 6th would have been my mom and dad's 80th wedding anniversary, as they were married on that day in 1929. Seems June 6th is a most auspicious day to get married, too... I hope your sixtieth is one of celebration and happiness for you and your family. 3. Margie - I don't have family in this cemetery, but I love what you are doing. Thank you for not forgetting these folks. Does anyone know who the parents might be of these young girls Nancy and Mary Slusher? My heart aches that I could not get to Floyd to visit the graveyards of my ancestors, but I am grateful for people like you who are out there taking care of them.
