    3. Paul, Now that is quite unusual and interesting. By the way, we were talking to Earl last week and he said to tell you he asked about you. He was wondering how you were doing. I told him you and Geneva were about to celebrate 60 years of marriage. He and Agnes celebrated 60 years last year. Hope all is well with you and Geneva. 2. Hi Carolyn, Thanks for replying.  My son was delivered by Dr. Andrews.  He also got help for us when we had to rush the same son to Norfolk General ER.  He fell through the glass of a sliding door when he and his friends were roughhousing at one of the boys houses.  His arm was sliced open from wrist to elbow and he also had a big cut on his stomach, but not deep, thank goodness.  We drove to the hospital in rush hour traffic and the ER was packed when we arrived.  Dr. Andrews came down the hall, after we had been there a while, and my husband stopped him and when he saw the blood soaked towels he got us in immediately.  Ken was 9 then.  I don't think I would recognize anything anymore.  We moved from Virginia Beach in 1969 and only went backin 1978,  when my father-in-law passed away. Hope you have a nice weekend also. My daughter Docie (1974) and my son Ian (1977) were both born at Norfolk General, and both births were overseen by Dr. James D. 3. Your story reminds me of when I was finishing my master's thesis and I found an article that I wanted to cite in my paper. The article was written by two nurses, one of whom was a VIA. I can't remember the other but both names are common in SWVA. I remarked to one of the members of my committee that the authors were from VA. She asked why I thought so, I told her that I recognized their last names. So we looked in the little box found with any scientific article that gives the background of the authors. Ha, both were working in Roanoke! I can't remember the name of the hospital but I know that any of ya'll could tell me in a second. My mentor read the small paragraph of info regarding the authors and snorted, "you and your genealogy, you work it into everything." I guess I kinda do. 3. Conall was also born in DePaul, and he is wonderful! As for being my first, he is my first fully blood-related grandson, but my first grandchild to be born was my granddaughter Kacie. However, I also have three grands who are by my stepson, Randy, a girl named Morgan Frances, and two boys named Riley Alexander and Randolph Edward. We are blessed. Now, my three "step-grands may actually be related to me as distant cousins, as the Y-dna test to which my brother submitted swabs shows that my husband's HALE line (his great-grandmother was Martha B. HALE) and my HALE line are fairly closely related! I have neither determined the next generation up the line for my John HALE nor for his Edward HALE, but they may be brothers or cousins. Genealogy is nothing if not a never-ending mystery, with unexpected twists and turns! Thanks for the good wishes... Carolyn

    2. Hi Genevieve and Carolyn, My second son was born at Norfolk General in 1959.  The first was born in Martinsville in 1957. Congratulations to all for your beautiful children, grand and great-grand children.  I have 5 grandchildren and 2 Great grandchildren.  The youngest was born 3 years ago at noon on the 4th of July.  Can't get more patriotic than that. Enjoy them, life is too short. 3. Speaking of babies, on Xmas eve 1933 my mother's best friend, came to our home as she often did. They began talking about me, my sister and brother spending the night with her. naturally we wanted to be at home on that special night. All we were thinking about was Santa coming that night with toys for us. Mama and her friend kept on and on and we finally decided we would go home with her. We were awake bright and early on xmas morning and ran all the way home. There we found Mama in bed and holding a baby girl in her arms. We thought Santa brought her a baby until we grew older and knew better. She was the last child and we spoiled her rotten, as the old saying goes.
